Is Tom's best position fullback?

Tommy's alright - he's just in a form slump at the moment. Probably not 100% fit either, ankle still giving him grief. His confidence has taken a bit of a knock, which is understandable given his age - not all young players are resilient and super confident. He still has miles of improvement in him and will be a good player for us for years to come. I do chuckle when I see his named tossed up as a 5/8 option though - God with his passing game it'd be a disaster @:) Ponga has him covered there by some margin. I think Jakey got the ball skills in the family.

Gutherson has a body more suited to a full back

The best fullbacks are not 6’4 like Tom

this string bean was pretty good ... for a donkey

Give the young fainu a spot on the bench instead of lewis brown. Plus tom wright is trash, was on and off last year in holden cup, and we all know to make into nrl first grade you must be consistenly really good in holden cup

If 2017 is mentioned , we must all remember that Tom Turbo made the most errors for the season from all NRL players. ( equal most ) even though Tom Turbo missed several matches with a few injuries.
When ever Tom Wright is given half a chance , as freakish speed is what people see in him that’s special and a great talent . Look at Taniela Paseka, struggled all season in u/20’s and Now is doing well and making a good positive impact in NRL this year.
Agree , Brown is not the answer looking to the future or Matt Wright / Jono Wright ; who are all past their best ( ALL TOO SLOW).

Tom Wright - The Great Wright Hope

I'm struggling to remember someone with more hype than him in the last few years. I just don't see what others see in this guy as an all round package. He carved up in attack against kids his age, but if he was really a standout in ISP he'd already be in team given our injury toll. I think the fact that we have played 4 other outside back depth players in front of him this year shows where he is at. I get the wishful thinking that we have a superstar on our hands, but at the moment I haven't seen any consistent evidence of that potential being realised.

I'd cop seeing him given a go on the wing as an option, just to see if he can lift to that NRL level, but personally I think it'd be madness to play him anywhere else at this stage - especially 5/8. He may well be the next Turbo, Ponga or Gutho, but he could also just as easily be the next Aaron Goom or Luke Dorn. Anyway we only need one more injury to a back over the next couple of weeks and he is there by default, so we may yet get the question answered.

It always makes me laugh or just roll my eyes when I see these people on social media, mostly Facebook, who continually bang on and on about the fact that we should be playing Wright at 5/8, he's a gun blah blah blah. Yet I have actually asked quite a few of these people if they have ever actually seen him play either live or on television, and nearly every time the answer is "I've seen his YouTube highlights". In other words, they've seen one or more 3 minute or so videos of him carving up the U/20s and that's it, which apparently means he's the next superstar.....

YouTube highlights are exactly that, highlights. They don't show that he is a poor defender. They don't show that he still lacks consistency in his game right now, playing roughly 1 good game in 3 or 4. And these people also ignore the fact that the club doesn't even see his future in the halves, they want him in the centres where he can use his running game more effectively where he doesn't have to worry about running the team. He's only been playing 5/8 for Blacktown because while Hastings was on the first grade bench for the early part of the season there literally was no one else at BW who was an anywhere near decent enough pivot. But now that Jacko has been banished back to NSW Cup and is playing in their halves (and with Suli currently in 1st grade), Wright is finally where the club wants him to be in the centres.

Personally, unless injury dictated it, I wouldn't be starting him right now in first grade, not even on the wing. I don't think he's ready for it yet. When he does finally play first grade at some point this year, I think he should and probably will come off the bench as the utility and be eased into it rather than throwing him in the deep end and telling him to swim like we did with Croker, though that was more circumstance than by design as Barrett was never going to play Hastings.

I agree with C&C, the fact that so far we've gone with Croker (5/8), the other two Wright's and Parker (W/C/FB), Suli (C) and both Hastings and Brown as the bench utility ahead of Tom Wright says a lot about where he is in his development.

I have seen him play a couple of times Holden8 and he has exceptional talent, mate. Its just that he doesnt get involved enough. He's been unusually quiet tis year so far in the Reggies, but is still showing those occasional signs of brilliance. Its his involvement that is the problem, not his skill.

No doubt mate, he has the skills but lacks consistency. We saw it last year with the 20s and take the Finals as a prime example. He dominated the first game we won, then was barely sighted, even in the Grand Final win. And its been the same for Blacktown this year.

No doubt that Tom Wright is a gun player. But even gun players are no good when they go missing so often. He needs to get consistency in his game.

Tom can play full back yes , but is he in the class of billy slater $800k +. No

He can play full back , but , he is not the ultimate fullback due to his size etc

Billy has 250 games experience at test level and origin at full back he has earnt his price tag

From a business point of view to manage the cap

I would of played Tom in the centres or wing $250-$400k

And gutherson at full back $300-$400 thats how much he’s on at parra

It’s not 1985. You know the minimum Salary is $100k?

There’s only so much talent around the traps, he would’ve been snapped up by another club if the Manly management were silly enough to pay him $250-$400k. He’d be earning less at Manly than he could be elsewhere.

Go play for another club then Tom this is a business with a salary cap not a charity
