Given his novice status, if he is borderline to make the squad now he could be a genuine star with another year's experience under his belt.

If SF cut him some other team would be likely to swoop in and sign him for next season and the marketing opportunities aa much as for the on field benefits this season.

As for his use in recent games against 2nd and 3rd stringers, it is still pretty good to be doing well against those guys and its likely the coach wanted to give him more actual game time to help him develop before exposing him to the best opponents.

Always knew he'd make it ;)

I totally understand why you were trying to taper expectations. The thing is Hayne is a special athlete and all the news since his first pre season game was extremely positive. I hope he kills it.

I was out on him on two counts:

1. Didn't think he'd cut it as an RB
2. Didn't think they'd use a spot on a specialist kick returner.

BUT - I always thought our top fullbacks could make it as kick returners. That goes for a few guys. I think it's harder to make big metres returning kicks in the NRL thank the NFL. We are better better tacklers and better at the kick chase.

The lenths good players go to get away from lol@Parra.

But good on you Hayne, now for the cocaine and hookers!

A big achievement for the boy who has followed a dream and made it. I admired Hayne as a player even though his ego was bigger than his club. To go over there and have to learn a whole new game and get there shows that he is an amazing athlete. I think he will do a stint there and return to the NRL and try and win a premiership.

All this helping to do is show how unprofessional the NRL are at selling & running our game.

Plus look how tough NFL is to play.

Funny the NRL told us league had to get rid of dangerous hits to stop being sued like NFL.

But i watch NFL & its 10 times more brutal hits than anything Toddyrules allow here. Imagine Mason getting penalised & suspended in the NFL for his block tackles! No chance.

Also keep in mind he has only played 4 games in his life. Wait till he has a full season under his belt, if he keeps improving who knows what he could achieve over there.

Manchester United used to have an average soccer player from South Korea for many seasons. It was said that he was there to sell shirts to a big Asian market. the guy would play every 3rd game and keep their Asian market happy.
I hope that the SFO 49ers don't see Jarryd as a way to sell some shirts to new Aussie fans.
I just googled 49ers jersey and it opened to this page first off. http://www.nflshop.com/San_Francisco_49ers_Jerseys

I didn't ask for for a 'Haynes' shirt. It just gave me this as a first option

Only $99 bucks...US bucks so that's probably $800 AUD since our dollar has just ran into a banana skin. Might get one...Go Jarryd!!! Woo HOO!!!
