I doubt the club would undermine Walsh with the Galvin signing.
As for comparisons with other players leaving clubs to sign elsewhere; it happens all the time without issue, which suggests there’s more to it in this context. Galvin is not being lambasted for testing the market, he is being lambasted for his attitude towards the Tigers.
- He was heard to say he ‘wanted out’ in the sheds last year.
- He was given an opportunity to play FG at 18.
- He hasn’t really done enough to warrant 5-6mil contact.
- He told the club not to bother with an offer.
So, what’s disappointed fans, is a young player that does not feel any sense of loyalty to a club that has (a) already given so much, and (b) is prepared to give more.
All they’re received in return is subtext about what an ordinary club it must be, that Benji is an ordinary coach, and some decent performances in a year where they won the spoon regardless.
That’s not comparable with Luai being forced out by a salary cap that cannot accomodate a four time premiership winning 5/8.
Personally, I have no emotion about what Galvin has done and/or what the Tigers (and senior players) have done in response. I just don’t see how comparisons are being drawn when it’s obvious the issue is more than just his desire to test the market. It’s very much DCE’s situation where no one can understand why the incumbent club are frozen out of negotiations and the domino effect that has on public perception of the club.
