Who said Elgey agreed to join us though? I didn't hear the club or him say anything in fact he told a reporter earlier in the day that he hadn't agreed to anything.

I suspect

Correct. Courier Mail had a story this morning quoting his agent saying he would decide TODAY. That came out just before 10 so I can't see how he people knew he was coming to us an hour before that.

The Manly Warringah Raiders ...... Wow, we can't even sign a 5 game rookie. This is an obvious statement but something is really, really wrong with our joint. Where do we go from here? The worry is not just that we couldn't get LG but more that no one wants to join us and we can't sign jack ****. I was hoping this year would be the bottom but fear not imagine the ****ty side we are going to have next year.

Well done DBK. You stood your ground and were proven right.

Can't blame Kane Elgey for being loyal. It's the two fwits we have this year who are disloyal.
Chez was strongarmed first by Choc then by Joker.

Manly completely mishandled the negotiations with Chez by saying 'take it or leave it' - its like half backs grow on trees in Chelsea@

Will be interesting how Manly address the chasm that they dug together with Dalai disciple Foran :swear:

If its true that we offered him 300k a season, surely any more than that is a bit much for a guy that's played less than 5 NRL games. Still spewing we missed out on him though.

This is my thoughts on it too.
How much do we all think is/was appropriate to offer a guy that's played only 5 NRL games no matter how good he may turn out to be?
It seems that 300K is tops in most peoples opinion but if it we got him at 350K would we think it's too much?
The NRL landscape is littered with "future international" etc so what is a fair price?
Tim Smith, McLinden, Lavea, Rodwell were the next big things in their day too - and yes to be fair there are plenty that went on to be stars too and others like Barrett and Anasta that had great careers but were always in the "overrated" box.
Don't get me wrong, I'm disappointed we missed out on him but how much are we prepared to pay is the question.
If we offered 400K just for the sake of it then I'd rather we didn't.
It's generally the case that you have to pay more to get a player to leave his club, just take DCE and Foz as examples.
It seems as players are only signing until the end of 2017 there's no carrot of a 4 year deal to take into account either. Seems he's gonna back himself on less dosh ( presumably) like Keary is an DCE did and hopefully bump his price up for next time.

I understand what you are saying but how do we effectively rectify the situation we find ourselves in and stay competitive ?

Not surprised at all he stayed. His heart would always have been with the GC anyway. One thing though, the titans had to pay a lot more for him than wanted. Good luck to the kid but in a couple of years time he'll probably want a big upgrade.

We didn't sign a 5 game rookie. I'm not too crushed about this.
Money talks. Manly have money and will sign at least one decent half.

Sadly more chance of me playing half for us next season than DCE that bird has flown sadly. You get 1 shot at a back flip it has to be done quietly and just announced not rumoured as the player get's unfair heat from the media lackeys who question your integrity.
.
Who is your manager? What sort of deal are you after? And can you do a back flip? The way things are going we will soon have to start looking at any possible half back options.

Who? What about forwards? Can any of your probe wielding aliens help? Surely they have something that can play half?

up the offer, or we will end up with duds like Sandow. I would rather pay overs for potential then a never had it to begin with

The club needs to get someone of quality on the books ffs

Well done Manly on the ball again I see. Maybe these clowns running the joint should go and talk to a real negotiator, i.e Arko.
