Des out coached by Clearly tonight

Jeez. What a load of heads down negative whinging this thread is. Its not worth writing down all the reasons the Rif is so good again for the 49th time. If we are atill ****e after 5 rounds then sure moan away but try to at least hold in the negativity for at least a few rounds.

just takes away from our players being able to play where they are best suited and know
I agree Des is set in his ways, in that he puts a lot of thought into his choices, then backs his judgment and lets it play out for a while.
But as to what position the players are best suited, that's just a matter of opinion. Des is well paid for his expertise in making those calls, the rest of us are entitled to our opinions but for who is right, the proof of the pudding will be in the eating. And it's still in the oven 🙂

Armchair critics always know more than the paid professionals who are at the top of their chain !
You watch ,we lose this weekend the noose parade will be calling for Hasler's head just like early season last year !

The shoe is injured till round 6 so that can't happen. Segeyaro hasn't played NRL in years and GCKT is a kid who would be eaten alive under the defensive load of NRL.
Any other tips for Des?
Yeah. Keep doing the same thing and expect a different result. That always works.

People should be allowed to vent on the night of the game. Holding us to account almost 5 days after the game is in bad faith. Did I overreact? Of course I did. But **** it felt good at the time.

Fri night will be the proof. Will our forwards stand up and defend, will they gain yardage momentum and offloads, will someone other than turbo stand up and give our attack some options, will our kicking game be something other than meaningless no pressure bombs to unmarked rorter backs. I bloody well hope so.

Yeah. Keep doing the same thing and expect a different result. That always works.
as the Romans once said ' Were you not Entertained ' last year? Des did the same thing and we played some of the best football that the NRL has ever seen.

I don't get what you lot think an off-season can accomplish?

The only way we will beat the top 3 ( who I don't think souths are now one of ) is to play them and learn. We learned a lesson the other night and it was a tough one. we will get better. we will succeed.

Venting is fine but this thread is full of it and its still coming. so yes its now 5 days after the fact and the moaning is still strong.

Would love to know who replaces Des to take us to the next level? .........

If you have no doubt over Des and the training staff, then unfortunately you’ve got your head in the sand. Fitness is concerning, selections are concerning. It’s been a long time since Des had a serious premiership contender. His front row is old school, you can’t carry so many big logs in the current game. Why was Koula on the bench? He was picking blokes on the bench for 3 min cameos 15 years ago. He’s all but ruined Jake, he’s just a tackle bot. Raising concerns about whether Des is still elite in the modern game is not moaning, they’re very valid concerns.

So just to be sure you didn't enjoy the old archaic style of play from last year no?

And just to confirm the premiership isn't decided by round 4? We don't want to be Parra and have it all won and dusted by round 10 do we only to fall away again and again ?

Des a serious contender? We were 80 min from a GF last year FFS. The Bunnies scored a number of tries from lucky kicks and we had 2 disallowed from Tom that normally would have stood. That puts us in a contender position I would say...... we are a team of momentum and strike. When we get that momentum we are near on impossible to stop. Yes we struggled v top 3 last year but that's about learning and growing.

In regards to Jake yes he was an attacking Dynmo when we were finishing near the wooden spoon positions so in all honesty I would rather Jake 2021 and we play that way compared to Jake 2015 - 2018 where we get rooted as a team.

Finally this thread is less about raising concerns and more about having a whing without any ideas on how to fix it. There isn't an available coach out there that:

1. Would come to us
2. Thats better than what we have

And

3. Understands Manly like Manly guys do.

So Russel Crowe borrowed 'are you not entertained' from the Romans. Cheeky blighter!

As the Sumerians once said: "In Des we trust."

When you haven't beaten the Panthers, Storm & Rabbits through to the middle of 2019, it kinda takes the "contending" argument out of things. You HAVE to beat them to win. You also HAVE to learn from your mistakes, and not start the season behind the eight ball. We can't chase our tails yet again this year, things are different - the league (opposition) would have looked at ways to nullify Tom. They would have worked out the fast spread to Saab. They'd know how to easily defend our attack.

Des Hasler needs to adapt. We get torn up the middle. The opposition gets on a roll, and we allow them to make huge metres in attack, meaning we are penned in our own 20 trying to make metres ourselves. We still have super slow ruck speed, play-the-balls and are slow at everything we do. Carrying two utilities ISN'T going to help us make metres, quite the opposite.

Unless we learn, adapt, change style like the better teams do for different opposition, we will be right where we are.

Is Des coaching any differently in 2022 vs 2011?

We certainly had an excellent defensive structure - soft of like what Cleary has with Penrith now.

In attack? In 2011 we had B Stewart and Lyon as our two attacking masters.

In 2022 we have Tommy.

I take you back just a few years.

Please do tell me where I have wrong information below.

2019 - Des comes back to howls of excitement and opposition. Takes the same team that was battling for the spoon in 2018 and goes to within 15min of a prelim final. Given it was effectively the same side not a bad effort given he was apparently over the hill and out of touch. All this without Turbo for large parts.

2020 - starts the year without his main choice for Hooker in MF after the famous Church Dance. We beat the chooks in a low scoring game in round 2 before the comp is suspended and thrown into disarray. We were set up to play for the rules at the time. Grind, wrestle, control the ruck etc etc. We had BIG bopper in AFB, Marty and Paseka. In the shutdown the powers that be completely change the flow of the game with their rule changes. We as a side struggle to adapt and have a tough year. AFB gets the hump at his wage in comparison with Marty and pretty well checks out for the season.

2021 - we loose Tommy before a ball is kicked. We have some exciting Jnr talent (who haven't played a game in 12 months)who Des decides to bring in thru the lower grades. We go 0-4 and the world is falling in. Des has lost it. Can't coach in 2021. Needs help from Paul Green. Blah blah blah.
We get our first win in round 5 and go on a run for the ages playing some of the best football we have ever seen. We finish 4th and make a preliminary final. We fall short.

2022 - we play 1 game against the GOAT side of the last 2 years. A side ethat would have beaten any other NRL side last weekend. A side that has a lot to prove. A side playing at home in front of their fans for the first time in a year. A side which at this very point in time was just too good.

ITS NOT THE END OF THE WORLD.......

As I did last year after 0-4 I'm predicting a good year so stay positive and get on the bus.

I think everyone here is on the bus mate, and everything you said there is absolutely valid.

All I'm saying is we don't want to make the same mistakes as the last few years (or we aren't learning or adapting), and we most certainly want to learn from the past (i.e. how to beat the top teams).

When people see the same behaviours and traits that did us over in the past recurring, I think it frustrates and disappoints people. Soft middle. No creativity or explosive play from dummy half. Hurting when teams get physical (especially when the opposition defense rush us). Slow at everything (in comparison to the best teams). Etc, etc, etc.

That's all.

I agree too. Which makes our discussion 🤔 a little irrelevant but.....

It was only 1 game against the hottest side in RL. I think we can learn and evolve and I think the coaching dept we have is in the best position to do that.

Its been widely talked about this week how the first round was markedly slower than NRL 2.0 was last year due to the refs. We are heading back towards 2019 speeds if they keep it up.

We will adapt as long as the game keeps the tempo.
