Des out coached by Clearly tonight

Wow! As I said it is round one. Gee the March/ April premiers never win the comp. Penrith were miles ahead of us tonight but it’s a long season. I remember one year when we lost the first 3 games in row and went on to the win the comp.

When was that?

Me too but if we are no hope of beating the top 3 then we haven't learnt jacksh*t from last year, we persist with the same average performers and will never win a premiership with this line-up.

I'd go with this, tbh:

01. Tom Trbojevic
02. Jason Saab
03. Tolutau Koula
04. Dylan Walker
05. Reuben Garrick
06. Kieran Foran
07. Daly Cherry-Evans
08. Marty Taupau
09. Karl Lawton
10. Taniela Paseka
11. Haumole Olakau'atu
12. Josh Schuster
13. Jake Trbojevic

14. Kaeo Weekes
15. Sean Keppie
16. Josh Aloiai
17. Andrew Davey

2008 we lost our first two. Not sure we ever lost our first 3 to win the comp.

Yep I remember 2008, the year before they made the GF, then lost a very close one against the Sharks round 1 and golden point in Newcastle in round 2. Two games they could’ve easily won…this game was a complete mismatch.

People saying its just round 1 well are we going to keep saying that until we win? Its just round 2 its just round 3... its just the same as last year no specialist hooker, DCE still thinks he's fooling someone with his dummies, nobody can make space for turbo and just hopes for the best when they pass it to him, our centres are sub par, no line speed in defence, bench had no impact...

Move Schuster to 5/8 , bring in either Segeyaro or Gordon Cham Kum Tong. We cannot persist with too slow Foran and Croker. Agree with the rest.

Last Yr we were the team that could score points for fun against the lower teams but had nothing against the top sides. If it was a close contest then you could say things were on the up. We were so far off tonight and they didn't have their best player tonight. Nothing seemed to be addressed from how we finished the season last yr which is concerning.

Penrith's speed off the line in defence and their ability to get 3 in so many tackles to slow down the ruck is special.

It made Manly look like they aren't fit and have no defensive system.
This kills us, and Melbourne, Souths and Penrith did it to us last year.
Penrith have done this again to us this year. We were beaten at the ruck in defense and attack tonight.

Even Billy Slater, when commenting on Turbo post-game, said in his defense "Tom can't do his thing when the team is getting beaten in the middle third" - and I actually agree with him - for once.

We went one out up the middle all night - Penrith easily read it, and countered it.Having the Lawman go down didn't help, and Walkers runs up the middle were missed.

Lose the middle, and your backs look ordinary. Win the middle, and they look like stars. And so it proved.

Any game plan that Des had went out the window once it became so obvious that we were physically being owned by the Riff.

Our mindset was defensive and passive and they were all over us and bar a couple of obstructions the score would have been so much worse.

Everything they did had purpose structure and aggression and we were 2nd best all night in dealing with their go forward and extra metres during the tackle. Harsh lesson tonight!

Yep, Cleary had 1 through 17 emotionally and physically ready for tonight, and they rode right over us, like roadkill. Is what it is I guess.

Not sure Des was outcoached... he made a poor selection in Koula instead of Davey... but we got mugged. Sipley, Paseka, Croker were non existent and Keppie in attack offered absolutely nothing and then Lawton was injured. When you have 5 of the 9 forwards contributing nothing except Keppie's defence that makes it one hell of a hard night.
