NineSportNRLCurtis Scott cleared to play for Canberra Raiders in NRL round one despite chargesBy The Mole - 1 hour ago

Scott breaks his silence on Aus Day arrest.

The NRL has cleared Canberra bad boy Curtis Scott to play at the start of the new season next week, despite having a serious court case hanging over his head.

Scott, who joined the Raiders after parting company with Melbourne over the summer, faces seven police charges after an alleged wild night on the drink on the Australia Day weekend.

The young centre was tasered after allegedly assaulting police and the courts will decide his fate in coming months.

But the alleged offences aren't serious enough for Scott to be automatically outed from playing under the game's 'no fault' stand-down rule.

The NRL is expected to make a statement on Scott's availability for round one later today.

The move is certain to anger fans of other clubs whose players have been stood down for similar offences.

Scott has a long history of problems off the field, some of which have allegedly been swept under the rug by officials.

Hmm. Let’s see what lessons Curtis Scott has learned from the NRL for - Punching a player in the face during a match and fracturing it - zero no sanction - Getting pissed as a newt and then when woken by Police assaulting them - zero no sanction. I’m sorry but am I missing something here? what message does that send to the players? The wrong one!

Question everyone , does this border on corruption OR is it that the charge isn’t as serious???

@SeaEagleRock8

Not serious enough under 11 years potential sentence so gets off

But in my mind still very corruption of the highest order by todd.

Double standards clearly on show!!!

We all knew he would be free to play.. can't have the raiders annoyed after lasts years gf.

Bet you anything afb, walker, suli did something like this 8 week automatic ban.

All this does is highlight the pandering and overreaction of last year’s decisions, including Walker’s ban. They were never going to be able to maintain the standard and, frankly, I don’t think they ever intended to. Hence the “consistency is overrated” quote.

The correct call has been made on all matters this year, in my view.

Would have to see the footage to make a call. If he did assault police officers he should be banned for life. Thinking that since greenburg has seen it , it must not be that bad.

The stand down rule was brought in to deal with things like players facing major criminal charges such as Jack De Belin and Manase Fainu. The NRL the added in "discretionary powers" to stand down others, but it seems to be based on either who the player is or which club they play for.

Dylan Walker and Maika Sivo were both charged with assaults on women. Walks was stood down and missed 9 games. On the other hand, Sivo is free to play. Neither charge carried a minimum sentence of 11 years. In fact, just about the only difference between the two is the clubs they play for.

Nelson Asofa-Solomona was stood down by the NRL and not allowed to play for NZ in last years end of year tests after his fight in Bali. A week or so later David Fifita actually spends three days in a Bali gaol for assaulting a nightclub bouncer, then basically pays a $30,000 bribe to get out, and the NRL's response is "move along, nothing to see here".

Now Curtis Scott is free to play despite assaulting an on-duty police officer while on a drunken bender.

As @Kevinward777 said above, Greenturd isn't even bothering to hide his agenda's any more.

"the club said it decided to stand him down after "taking into consideration that it was not his first driving offence in recent years".

It's been 5 months since his last one...give the guy a break a break!o_O
and it was only mid-range. C’mon Joe. You can do better than that.

As others have said, none of his charges have a maximum 11 year sentence so it’s not automatic stand down, it’s up to Greenberg’s discretion.
Apparently he wanted to view video of the incident so he could make no judgment as to guilt or innocence. How that works, I have no idea!

It is alleged he assaulted both on-duty officers. One of them was a chick. But it’s all about equality now, so we’ll slip that one under the carpet as well.
