No mate I’m not saying FU to those who are most vulnerable... put the outrage cape back in the draw. Nor am I advocating for people not get the flu shot. Merely pointing out that IMO, there is an enormous gulf between those who choose not to vaccinate their kids against something like smallpox and people who who don’t get an annual flu shot.

I will try again, I think I know where we went wrong and I could probably have worded things a little better.
I'm also not saying that everyone must get a flu shot. I don't think that is the case. I am referring to the specific case at hand where members of a community were asked to get one for the good of their and the wider community and refused...because of they are willing to put their own (unfounded) fears ahead of the wider community. That is the FU I'm referring to, whether they justify it as a their own personal health or through the idea that flu shots are not effective
Flu shots are not mandatory or potentially even necessary for 100% of the population and there aren't enough for everyone, and if you don't feel the need to get a flu shot then that's fine (unless you plan of visiting those at risk).
That said, the idea that you put forward is still a dangerous one and could be used to (falsely) justify a stance to refuse a flu shot. On that basis it deserves to be called out for the FU that it is (again when used as justification to refuse a vaccination).

OK, back up a bit. My previous post (the longer one) was reference to the fact that deaths could be significantly higher if we entered community epidemics which compromised health systems.
You countered this by downplaying my point and comparing influenza to smallpox and polio:

If not downplaying the effectiveness and meaning of the vaccine with this comment then what was your point?
I am attempting to have a rational and informed discussion with you, please do not attempt to win an argument (that we are not having) by claiming that I'm an outrage warrior.
And I don't think you would say FU to vulnerable people, directly or indirectly. But would you tell someone who has been affected by influenza that it's prevention is/was less important than smallpox and polio?

I love being pedantic ... No, all vaccines have the same efficacy in that they all work perfectly well against the virus or disease that they were designed to fight ... the difference is that the flu virus is constantly mutating ... so the vaccination must also change to be effective ... we are somewhat fortunate in the Southern Hemisphere that the flu we get has generally done the rounds in the Northern Hemisphere so we are able to get the new vaccine in time ...

Isn't science wonderful .... who would have thought those early little primates would become so clever ...

You cannot say you were simply pointing something out when you were responding to a post about the potential severity of epidemics/pandemics in a thread about players refusal to take a flu shot which is full of anti vaccine commentary. If not to add something to that context (i.e. downplay the importance of flu shots) then what was it for?
It has context. and to use it in that context. If Cartwright were to use this as reasoning not to have a flu shot then it would be an FU to his community (the NRL).
I also question whether you understand what offence is. I am not offended, nor am I trying to win an argument. I am simply trying to point out a flawed argument that is used to justify an anti vaxx stance (even if you aren't opposed to them).
