I will try again, I think I know where we went wrong and I could probably have worded things a little better. No mate I’m not saying FU to those who are most vulnerable... put the outrage cape back in the draw. Nor am I advocating for people not get the flu shot. Merely pointing out that IMO, there is an enormous gulf between those who choose not to vaccinate their kids against something like smallpox and people who who don’t get an annual flu shot.
I'm also not saying that everyone must get a flu shot. I don't think that is the case. I am referring to the specific case at hand where members of a community were asked to get one for the good of their and the wider community and refused...because of they are willing to put their own (unfounded) fears ahead of the wider community. That is the FU I'm referring to, whether they justify it as a their own personal health or through the idea that flu shots are not effective
Flu shots are not mandatory or potentially even necessary for 100% of the population and there aren't enough for everyone, and if you don't feel the need to get a flu shot then that's fine (unless you plan of visiting those at risk).
That said, the idea that you put forward is still a dangerous one and could be used to (falsely) justify a stance to refuse a flu shot. On that basis it deserves to be called out for the FU that it is (again when used as justification to refuse a vaccination).
