Coronavirus sucks.. but the NRL lives!

Are you kidding mate. This ain’t about stocks lol
They are an indicator.of the world. This is about jobs , livelihoods, mental health and social fabric.
And for your interest I spent four years remedial teaching in the ghettos in Chicago helping kids who are victims of gang culture on weekends and have always been involved in charity work my whole life.

Anyone who can’t see what’s happening through this haze of panic should open their eyes.
And by the way my 48 year old brother tested positive yesterday afternoon so I think it does effect me and he agrees with everything I say.He is a stock trader though so he ain’t a teacher or nurse.
All the best to your brother and the family.

Btw he is ok Very well handled by GC hospital atm apparently.
Sorry for the potential insensitivity, but doesn't the fact that your brother was hospitalised show that it isn't really comparable to the flu or h1n1? Has your brother been hospitalised with either of those recently? You say it was handled well by the hospital, what if wasn't? What if they were overloaded.
The fact that this thing is as widespread as it is is terrifying. What if it was something with the same R0 but a higher mortality rate...we would all be ****ed!
Seems like a good opportunity for some training and to learn some valuable lessons imo.

I'd hope that if your 48 year old brother had some sort of immuno suppression problem that you'd be more concerned. Great that you've done good things with your life and I really mean that. It's just that to me, this is very real and something that will change the very fabric of society.
As for mental health, I think the threat of a pandemic with nothing being done may have just as serious consequences as job losses etc.

He’s fine and thanks for concern guys.He is a big healthy dude who surfs. And he’s not hospitalised at all. We have a mate up there who is a doctor so he arranged it .Got symptoms and was tested. Not sure how he got it but they do tracking analysis apparently..Self isolating of course now which is tough with two yiung kids.Symptoms mild. My mates daughter suspected to have it too . She’s mild too but isolating till results of course which she gets today.
GC hospital has quite a few cases now. No real panic up here as GC wombat says. State of art hospital so they are confident. My mrs is a. Drug and alcohol nurse in ED and so far so good.Once again doctors were saying it’s up to people who contract it mildly to deal with it rationally and not overload hospitals with follow ups after the original diagnosis.

Not sure if I mentioned it but the original cases were at GC and those guys told the doctors there their friends were getting treatment in China with malaria/ aids drugs so doctors gave it to them. 50 hospital trial now but need 2000 hospitalizabke cases for trial which ironically they dont have .My Mrs says they are pretty upbeat about it as a possible treatment and Qld Uni have been saying the same based on test tube results.

What I was starting to write before I got distracted was ...
With face to face communications likely to be significantly less common for a while, the opportunity to converse with others via other platforms - like this one - will become even more valuable.
So we may as well settle in, and be extra mindful of basic protocols, because it's great to be able to share ideas and information (and humour) honestly and respectfully right here!

And at least together we've answered one question:
Coronavirus.. will it affect the nrl?
"Yes"

In reality our most pressing problem at least for today is those feathered fools at Leichhardt.
We need to deflate their season before we return to the serious issues above.

Do you want the contact details of the widow of the 51 year old that died over here?

So....you wanna be ok but screw the rest of us.

ok then

Facts are, if you have a pre existing illness you are potentially screwed at ANY age.

I can adjust my post if you like to reflect “ the majority” under 55.

So far, worldwide there’s been very few deaths under 60.

I've heard people say that but it is untrue, sadly.

Yes those with pre existing illness’s ( such as respiratory issues) will suffer , could die , but perfectly healthy ones won’t have an issue.

Sorry mate, don't worry about it. 🙂

If any of you have been to the beach over the past couple of days you would have noticed that there are actually more people having a surf/swim than normal.
Personally, I can't think of a more healthy outing than one to the beach, and the amount of salt water that gets into your nose can only help fight a potential virus.
Not that I'm medically equipped to offer a valid opinion, mind you.

let"s hope that an effective vaccine is not too far away , that will be the game changer . I have noticed all sorts of predictions with that important break through development . it is going to require then just as much humanitarian and vulnerable individual considerations as [ or should be the case world wide now ] to ensure that the most deserving or susceptible receive the vaccine first or are given the priority .

What I have noticed is that the Coronavirus has really caused some people who usually steer away from arguments to fire up.

I reckon that’s pretty understandable, and despite this being a football forum I think everyone needs a social outlet on this.

Im lucky ( and unlucky), lucky enough to be at home self isolated but unlucky enough to be in a high risk category.

Really just hope I can get through it and live to see another Eagles Premiership!!

If this goes on for some time, things will change in our life exponentially. More people shopping on line, doctors on line, education on line. Things will never go back the same. The genie is out . A raft of moral judgements will need to be made around this

I suspect tracking of sick people and the likes will also allow the gov to push through a raft of privacy bills they have before parliment in the name of care , and fear will allow it pass .

In the argument of morale v morality i vote with morality. Every time a business closes, another takes its place.

Virus aside , the economic impact is so bad because of unemployment, under employemnt, casual employment, union erosion, and the sheer numbers of people on the poverty line. This isnt a virus issue as much as we think . People with buffers and employment assurance handle it waaaay better

Govt made that mess, they should clean it up

Completely understandable mate.

Went to my local shops yesterday, expecting it to be deserted, and ppl wearing masks. Couldn’t have been more wrong. It was packed. The cafe had to bring out extra tables to accommodate the mainly 60-70 yr olds. I was sitting on a bench getting more instructions on the mobile from the ze fuhrer . And she asked what all the background noise was. I said it’s the oldies, they’re having a ball. It was like they’ve gone ..."We’ve had a good innings, and we are going out in style". It was that, or the cafe was dropping MDMA in their cappuccinos.
Which cafe is that?
