Coach Seibold thoughts so far.... so good

Get this:

Nearly 3/4 way into the season...
Manly ranking 7th in attack
3rd in defence

3rd in defence!!! (admittedly conceding only 1 point fewer than Panthers and Wahs, yet… 3rd!)

This is unlikely to be a fluke. In fact, clearly a plan of the coaching staff. For years we’ve all said defence is the main thing we need to improve, although there’s been different theories about how to do that.

Could this be why DCE is leaving? He was told we’ll only be offering a reduced deal, in part because we want him to play a far simpler, safer style so that we can play a pressure game. Less ad lib risky brilliance. As Manly’s greatest ever star (maybe in his own mind?) this was a big insult, hence, “Seeya”.*

Regardless – if Manly can keep working on this high possession, low error rate formula, we’ve still got enough firepower to beat the best. And that style is so much better for my heart rate!!

*mere guesswork/conspiracy theory by me 😊
The irony is that Robinson won't let him play any other way. Its all about the money!

I remember the first couple of months of Seibs time at Manly saw a marked improvement in our contract; it was brutal and I thought we’d turned a corner in defence. For whatever reason, we couldn’t sustain it for too long into the season. The last few weeks have been as close as we’ve come to getting back to that style. There’s a real emphasis on line speed in yardage defence and the contact can be brutal at times. This type of approach requires serious discipline to be effective when intent spills over into ‘going early’ or ‘high tackle’ penalties. I’ve been so impressed with the discipline in our approach to restricting the opposition’s go forward.
Some quality observations.

And I will pot Siebold in going away from this and to be too obsessed about "our weapons"

We should have enough points in us with the strike power on the field - so doubling down on this strategy was a mistake.

Great win. Three in a row now
We haven’t won four in a row since 2021 from memory.
Deserves credit for the last three weeks
If he gets us in the top 4 that would be a magnificent achievement

I get the feeling that Seibold's real niche is as a "football Dept" manager .... the bloke that oversees the complete football operation in a ... "The Manly Way" type role.

I believe this is the basis for his reported position of standing aside for the likes of Ennis to come on board as Head coach in charge of the actual player coaching and game tactics.

Not a big fan of this arrangement normally ... ego's usually get in the way ... but I think Seibold could probably make it work ..
I actually think this could be a real win if it happens. Siebold to run the ship, Ennis to coach the players. Both would be doing what they are best at.
