Wooden Spoon

Interesting, Ryles has done more positives in one year than someone else we know in 3 years. Any guesses?
He's really hit the ground running, hasn't he? Which is odd, considering he never did much running as a player…

But seriously, his first year has been very impressive - better than Ciradlo's by some margin. If the Eels keep playing the style of footy they're playing now, and if they can keep Moses on the paddock (which isn't always a given), they will win a lot more games next year.

As opposed to us who are going in the opposite direction, I'm afraid.
Well let’s see , for the first time in a long time the football department has a “ war chest “ , let’s see if they can do anything with it.

If no one comes , then that’s on the club / football department , and yes we will be heading south not north.

But let’s see first

Decisions for next year will also have 2027 taken into account when more $$ becomes available with the decrease in Jake and Tom's wages.

My point being, get a player, maybe 2 that Manly see as an astute buy and for the future if manly can afford it and there a worthy players available, ensuring funds are available for 2 big fish for 2027 when quite a few big names are on the market. .

Hasler retires having never won a spoon.
Fitting end to his career.
Except he pointedly said he hasn’t retired…..

What the market thinks is another thing but then hey, Big Mal is coaching an NRL team again in 2027 and we all know his strike rate at club level.

Ive gotta to say I am really concerned about our football department. I don’t know what lens they look through. We really need to get it right now. I see this club at a crossroad in 2026. We need a plan , a vision and pathway that the football department and the owner collectively work towards. We have some strong juniors coming through and we need the right balance between experience and young talent to improve as a playing group. Cant help but feel too may short term success decisions have been made in the past focussed on saving jobs rather than the long term betterment of the club. The owner needs to take advise from the right people. We don’t have them at present:

Poor Knights, just floating around the bottom 6, then bottom 4, then bottom 2, then BAM !!
At the bottom....perfect ending for such an underperforming team.

Well I was probably a bit dramatic in making this thread but it was after we had lost to the Knights and Titans, the two teams who ended up finishing 16th and 17th.

Don’t really like the direction the club is heading and think it’s very possible one may come eventually, but I do think Fogarty will provide some stability to keep us competitive most weeks. Probably still in that 7th-12th range we’ve been floating around for the last decade!

Mark, it's hard to buy quality when there is limited quality merchandise in store and buyer competition, is a frenzy. Its almost like opening time @ the boxing day sales, but instead of Myers or DJ's we're outside The Reject Shop.

The problem being there are two new teams coming into the competition. If big money players are available then the price on their heads will be even bigger

Our Football Department has been pretty crap ever since rusher left to go with Des to the Dogs all those years ago. Ever since then it seems like all that we ever look at for talent is the Tigpies. Back in the days, the Eels always seemed to be our unofficial feeder club too but Crusher used to scout bush talent as well.

Seibold's post game presser was really, really lame and it seems we have a coach and and an owner who is proud, happy with a 50% winning record. 50% appears to be the "success" benchmark and the ceiling.

I think direction hangs in the balance, the next 12 months is huge for the club.

In 2026 I agree, 7th to 12th unless absolutely everything goes our way.

However if some of our youngsters push through in 26 and we make the right recruitment decisions for 26 and 27 we could be set up really well 27 onwards.

As I said very interesting 12 months....
