Should Hastings be given a go as a starting half in the NRL side?

Wow. Not a single one has considered the effect this whole saga has had on the Frog, if they have they haven't mentioned it.

This crap has been going on since the Frog started here.
How much of it has been directed/leveled at him? I would imagine a LOT of it.
Can you imagine how tentative he must feel EVERY time he gets the ball?

I hope it's a huge load off his shoulders and frees him up to play footy.

There is no way he received the many national accolades he has if he has played like he has for us. Baz has even said he has a GREAT kicking game. Where is it?
He's probably so scared of fu*king up that he is almost frozen.

Talk about a young kid doing it tough, being Hastings real target for 5+ months. The unassuming, Frog is probably a big silent casualty of this whole thing.

I hope it helps him, not makes it worse now Hastings has been expelled.

Very good post and I hadn’t thought of that angle!

Let’s hope that with the Action Jackson / Cletus / Wacko Jacko / Conor MacGregor Jnr issue put to bed Croker will now fulfil his destiny and become the greatest 5/8 ever to pull on the jersey and shut us questioners down for good!!!

You missed the part where this is pure speculation. Who knows how and to who Hastings has been stirring/ fighting.

Maybe the frog is struggling in an under
performing team like most rookies in their first year would

They could be best mates for all we know!

Hopefully Croker improves on the field but his inexperience is a major factor and Baz knows it. Otherwise we wouldn’t have chased Pearce, Hodkinson, etc.

Basically what it tells Kermit is that he has job security now. There are no other realistic 5/8 options unless we sign someone. Our current 28 man squad only has Hastings as a potential half and he has been stamped "NEVER TO PLAY NRL". Some have been mentioning T Wright, but the only way I can see him getting a start is through injury (and probably 2 or 3 required at that). Croker can relax now to some extent, and just concentrate on the task at hand - he isn't battling for a spot. I make our 5/8 options as being Walker, Api (Brown to 9) and maybe M Wright at a squeeze - none of which appeal. They may consider upgrading J Lussick as cover, now that Cletus has had the red line run through his name.

Of course the flipside to this is what do we do if Kermit gets injured ??

I was thinking about this because when we signed Croker we were after Moylan, then Pearce, then Carney. He probably had the expectation of playing for Blacktown and developing his game to be ready if/when we had an injury for him to step in, to be honest he probably expected to be behind Hastings. Due to the cap witch hunt and Hastings issues in Feb it looks like Baz had told him he's our first string 5/8 unless we sign Carney, the only 5/8 still available to at the time. I reckon he'd know he'd be out of his depth and that can't help confidence.

I've said he should be dropped but knowing all this it puts a different perspective on it. We need to get behind Frog and try and support him as much as possible. Blake Green was no world beater, hopefully Frog can emulate Green's game/playing style for us for the rest of the season.

Maybe. But a real competitor, a great player, would take the opportunity to prove on the field why he had to be first choice. Sadly, I don't think we have a great player here.

Green walking out may have prompted Jacko to assume an automatic NRL spot @

Glad its over and everyone now knows the Club's stance :wait:

Actually, thinking back a bit further (in an effort to:

a) procrastinate as much as I can at work, and;
b) get this thread to 40 pages...)

Remember Mick Monaghan? Gun player, leader, courageous, seemed to put heaps into the club and community...but almost universally unpopular with the playing group. They all called him a weirdo. I think he maybe read too many books to relate to many footy players, but he is another one that should have had a much longer career in the NRL, but was shut down because he couldn't interact properly.

Then again...his brother did receive fellatio from a dog, so maybe there's more to it.
I don’t think mick Monaghan was starting fights and calling himself Conner mcgregor

Yeah maybe...and we don't NEED great, we need an environment where a Junior Kangaroo half can learn his trade and grow unfettered, good will do fine.

He was never intended to be "first choice", neither was Hastings who was intended a backup for Pearce. The Frog was signed to grow into it but then had it thrust on him by default with this Hastings crap and missing out on Pearce etc.
I hope he comes good now.

To be fair, he has missed most of the 2 past seasons through injury, and had just signed a minimum 1 year deal, at age 20, with the expectation that Green, Hastings and others were ahead of him.

He literally has been thrown in the deep end .... he has proven to me he is a competitor, and both physically and mentally tough .... whether he can prove he has the skills to make the cut .... don't know .... but he hasn't dropped his bundle yet .....

Many would have folded after the first 5 weeks, but he seems determined to keep going ..... I wouldn't be backing him to fail I know that ...

You don't think all the Hastings crap is about how good he is and should have/deserves the starting spot?

That automatically puts it all on the Frog kid.

Maybe the fights stem from backing up Croker. That one is pure speculation.

Do you think he has the ability to be the organizing half Woodsie?

To be fair, the kid was 18 when he said that. I used to tell my girlfriends I was Clark Kent when I was 18. You know the episode where Clark used his laser eyes to warm up Lois’ feet when they were between the sheets, and she says, “You missed”?
I actually thought when Paul Kent was recounting the time Jacko was looking in the mirror pretending he was Connor McGregor (whoever he is!) that it surely wasn't a hanging offence. It's the sort of thing I'd imagine young athletes muck around with all the time. I think Kent just wanted to have some input re his behaviour and it's all he had.

Dean Ritchie on Fox Sports has said tonight there are zero NRL teams interested in Jackson Hastings.

Have fun in Reggies Jackson.

Of course they aren't. They would be doing us a favour and putting their own squad at risk in the process. It is a lose lose for every other club.

Our best chance at getting rid of him is if he commits a sackable offence.

A nothing interview.
There were claims that there was a scuffle at training after DCE hit Hastings in the leg... and Hastings retaliated by striking DCE in the head. Then at 1am at the hotel after the Titans loss, following a visit to a strip club by some of the players, DCE confronted Hastings and blows were struck which had to be broken up by teammates.
Whether much of this is true remains to be proven.
