That's a good piece of work SE1. Lets hope Seibold has some other options. If that is our "go-to" pack of forwards in 25 then I would say absolutely no chance of making the 8. That list would be Easily the slowest and most immobile pack in the comp. I think Seibold has to take some chances with some of the younger guys coming thru. Age could work in our favour.

Matterson and James being upgraded to the top 30 after a combined 11 minutes of NRL action in 2024 is certainly a choice. And is Walsh really going to be in the 30 as well? He'd have a less than 5% chance of playing NRL next year, should swap with Lehi on the development list. That's three obvious spots right there wasted and there's a few more that can be questioned as well.

So the Schuster money went to (rightfully) upgrading Haumole and... Aloiai and Waddell? But not Bullemor or Talau who were among our best every week this year. I know none of Condon, Humphreys, Lawton, Parker, Paulo and Woods would've been on much but things still don't seem to be adding up to me...

Our recruitment/retention and salary cap management is akin to taking one of those poops, where no matter how many times you wipe your butt-hole, the stain just keeps re-appearing !!

Reported doesn’t mean it’s factual, they could be on more or less.

The guidelines of salaries reported are based on innuendo, the Dave Riccio list, the buzz and Brent read list, SEN sport talk and Zero tackle, there is discrepancies between these reported salaries.

The take away point is the club couldn’t sign Bateman on a reduced salary unless they cut a player or two, the salary cap must be out of whack with recent player upgrades, otherwise they could have used the Schuster dollars on Bateman.

Look at the recent signings, there is no significant signing that improves the roster in 2025, Onitoni Large great signing but not in the 30 man squad, MCK handy player let go by Souths, SKO hasn’t played NRL for two years, Tevaga handy player let go by the Warriors and Patolo could be handy let go by the Dogs.

I didn’t say dire that is how you have perceived it to be.
The new recruits are way better than what we let go!

Seriously? Apart from Lawton & maybe Humphries you think replacing Condon, Woods, Lodge, Paulo, Parker with Walsh, Large, Patolo, Takeihau, Tevaga, Cheekam is not better? WOW!
I get it that the signings, or lack thereof underwhelm some people on here.

But I do agree we have upgraded the back end of our roster.

It probably doesn't move the needle, but it at least shows the commitment to try and incrementally improve the roster with the obvious salary cap constraints.

I think it is hard to say at the moment.

Excited by the young kids in Large and Walsh but you never know how young talent will pan out.

Hard to judge at this stage the value players like Taukeiaho, Chee Kam, Jazz and Patalo will bring but considering Lodge, Condon, Parker and Woods brough basically zero this year then it is logical to think we will see an upswing.

For mine though we need another forward to replace Lawton. I dont think he is a star but he needs replacing.

I think Patolo will be that man. His physique looks amazing & could surprise. I just think that our recruits will offer much more improvement to the team than people give them credit for. I’d rather Takeiaho, Tevaga or Cheekam coming on as replacements rather than Woods, Condon etc.

Hopefully he is our guy but it is still a bit of a hit and hope.

Fingers crossed

Onitoni Large is an upgrade though it would be mid 2026 at the earliest for him to get into first grade with his age. Be interesting where his best position turns out to be.

Lodge is one the squad will miss, for him to force his way into the starting 13 having not played much football at all in 2024 says a fair bit about the middles in the 30 man squad for 2025. His replacement in SKO has been injury plagued also.

Tevega has terrible ball handling, his error rate is very high due to this, I don’t see him bringing what the squad is giving up in Lawton.

I hope you are proven to be correct that the players coming make the 30 man squad better in 2025.

Jazz make 6 errors in his 19 appearances this season gone. 15 Warriors made more errors than that. 13 more Sea Eagles.
As you know there are many factors behind these quoted, typically attacking players make more errors challenging kicks etc.

Minutes played, the eye test has him averaging 32 minutes per game in 18 appearances with 6 errors in 2024.

The two that challenged for worst hands at the Warriors were Ford and Tevega, a bit of a piss take between the players also.

What about errors per minute?
Ha I did expect this.

Jazz played 609 minutes so you are looking at an error every 101 minutes.

If he makes our 17 I'd say you are looking at 30min a game absolute tops so on 2024 form youd expect him to cost us an error once every 3 games.

I've not the time nor inclination to go player by player but as a comparison Lawton had 11 errors in 1265 minutes do an error every 115min.

A dry fast track at Brookie might help him a little too opposed to a cold wet old Mt Smart.

Interesting stats site, thanks.
And probably explains why Manly signed Jazz - he ranked 3rd in NRL for highest workrate on both sides of the ball. That stat combines runs, tackles and decoy/support runs, and Jazz was in the top few in each of those.
I reckon Jake will be happy to have this 'old slow' bloke helping him at Manly next year 🙂

Also have to consider where errors were made...
Not too sure how error-prone Kelpie was, but where & timing of them...
My oh my
