From the Manly Daily:
Baird wants answers on `missing' Brookie millions

Treasurer Mike Baird
TREASURER Mike Baird has demanded Warringah Council explain how they spent a grant delivered by the Iemma government before he considers handing over any more funding for Brookvale Oval.
The $6 million was granted in 2008 for an upgrade to Manly’s home ground.
“It’s important to remember that the primary intent of the $6 million when it was given by the state government to Warringah Council was to provide additional undercover seating in the Jane Try stand,†the Manly MP said.
“This hasn’t been delivered and accordingly the community needs to know how Warringah Council has spent the $6 million of state taxpayer funds provided for the upgrade.â€
The council is planning for a $70 million redevelopment of the oval and its surrounds but has revealed it has no money to fund it.
It’s commissioned several design proposals and funding options for the work, which are currently on public exhibition.
Mayor Michael Regan’s preferred outcome is to hand the site over to the state and have them fund the redevelopment.
He said he was unaware the government was seeking details on the grant expenditure. ``That’s the first I’ve heard of it,’’ he told the Manly Daily.
``I would be surprised if they did not already have that information from our last meeting several months ago.’‘
A council spokeswoman could not provide a full cost breakdown of the expenditure but said details of the money spent under the grant had been reported to the Department of Sport and Recreation.
``All the grant funds have been spent as per the state government’s wishes and include new public seats, construction of an extra corporate suite, new food and beverage outlets, new toilets, refurbishment of oval, improved disabled access, roof renewals, new lighting, electrics and scoreboard.’‘
