Let’s say Pearce has Already signed...
How?
*There is 2m extra in the cap 2018.
*Extra money from Snake/Matai - even after upgrades.
*New signings work out similar to departures inc Lawrence.
*At worst if you believe Rothtool (which I don’t) - IF Pearce took only $500,000 year 1 - there are Backended and performance rated contracts.
*TPA’s which other clubs manage to exploit.

We shouldnt get too upset by the material coming out of the daily media, especially the Telegraph. The only thing worthy in it is the history section, the crosswords and the funnies. The rest is 10% fact and 90% conjecture with a heavy right wing big business propaganda slant. Its designed to entertain and manipulate, not give factual information or act like a a truly impartial news sheet, that reports the news instead of creating it. That died soon after WW2. Their journalists lost the art of investigation decades ago and now just peruse various sites, such as this one, and regurgitate what they read. No matter if it has anything remotely factual about it. The best we can get from the Telegraph is that something is happening, but what, is often too hard or too much work to clarify, contrary to its vested interests, or against the Murdock mantra, to identify factually.

The DT says we only have $500k after releasing Green on $350k. So apparently according to buzz we had only $150k to spend if we hung onto Green....
Surely that's wrong.

Just burns him that Pearce would choose the club with the least amount of $$ available. Before it was Manly poaching players with $$ and now we still poach with less $$ than the others!! Just jealousy. If MP signs with us he would have done it for the right reasons.

Our spine trumps both Knights and Sharks, forward are better, and from what we have heard through our players TB is a coach they love playing for and MP already has worked with him previously as a player in SOO and as part of the Assistant Coach team with SOO.

Hopefully we can get him.

Everyone on here looks at our squad and considering the Snake/Matai impact, our deduction is that we should have cap to spare in spades! Yet all the media says we got nothing left and even the owner is on record crying poor (saying we do not have space to compete with offers from other clubs for Pearce)

Honestly, I find it bizarre that people cannot believe this. I do.
Our club is presently run by idiots!!
I wouldn't be surprised by anything...............they could have already pissed away the salary cap for the next ten years for all we know (back end deals, guaranteed increases, % of cap deals, performance bonuses)!

To sort this s*** out, the new CEO could be just about the most important signing Manly has made for years.

Would you take gutherson over Pearce ?

I have enough trouble balancing my own budget (slight understatement). Think I'll let Mr Gorman worry about who we can afford.
TPAs mean that all speculation about any team's cap space is just imagination - much like the size of my own budget!

You mean as opposed to that bastion of objective journalism, the Sydney Morning Socialist?

If you think the SMH is socialist you have been properly blinded and indoctrinated by the right wing politics that dominate this country, Terry.

The only difference with the SMH is that they are not extreme right wing, more centre right. Even the Labor Party has been moving year by year to the right since the 1980s. My friend, the politics and media in this country are dominated by those who want you to be happy with the status quo, and not look too closely at the small print. We have become Americanised with uncontrolled capitalism that sells off everything and ensures the wealthy maintain a virtually tax free existence, while increasingly like America, there are growing numbers living on the streets.

Pop over to some of the better run European nations and check out the infrastructure and utilities available to the average citizen, where taxes are far more equitable and proportionate to wealth, and the basics such as education, transport, energy, housing, even food are available to all without sending them into endless debt. And they survive with a real refugee crisis, not the little trickle we had to confront. Check out how they deal with the drug issue, the crime issue, the welfare issue, without sending them into debt, despite having no serious resources to sell off, like we have.

This country is dominated by capitalistic opportunism and vested interest. How else does such a wealthy resource rich country become so much in debt.

For those who dont believe the inequitable arrangement check the UN reports that has Australia well in the top 10 (between 6-8) for child poverty, in proportion to the wealth in the country

Pearce’s priorities once he gets to narrabeen are to do an objective analysis of the smh editorial policy, followed by a thinktank on child poverty.

My apologies fellow Silvertails for my pontificating. Seen just a bit too much of the con job politicians sell to us through my past employment.

Now as for Pearce, sell the house and get him.

Yeah the cost of australianis insane and the expense too but everyone else manages it and we will too.

I’m looking forward to my kids having a lifestyle and upbringing like I had

Can’t wait and hoping to catch up with many here this season.

I might even start working on a Silvertails get together and event
Yeah, that's why we moved home ...... for the kids! We just thought it would be easy coming home but it took time to adjust. We are back 4 years now and couldn't be happier that we moved back. Good luck.

Saying we have to back end all our deals because we don't have much free for 2018.

Doubt the club would make this mistake again.
I think back ended deals could work if all the ducks lined up........

- The senior players retire/move on at the desired staggered intervals
- The players continue to play consistently at a higher level through their contract
- The players don't turn up lame and lose big chunks of game time especially at back end
- Young guns don't appear from the ranks and require a payment boost early
- And importantly, Premiership/s must be won

A bit of a gamble with all of that.

P.S. And what's with the Troll rating you gave me on page 61 Batts? Devastated. I think my green bar has moved a pixel to the left.;)

If you seriously think the SMH is centre right, I hate to think what you would call left of centre. Pravda?
And the labour party moving to the right? With a 50% renewables target and open borders? Seriously?
As for tax rates - I pay 49c in the dollar - is that what you would call "virtually tax free". Over half the Australian population pay no net tax, meaning the other half is footing the bill. Is that what you call "equitable and proportionate"?
As for the nirvana that you suggest is Europe, it seems all is not so rosy in Merkels socialist utopia these days, given she can't form government in Germany, and the UK voted to get out. Some of those scandanavian countries you no doubt see as nirvana have the highest tax rates in the world.
How did we get into debt? Maybe because of the creep of socialist nanny state welfareism, where half the country has their hand-out expecting something for nothing, instead of pitching in, having a go and trying to better themselves, and indirectly, the country.
Exactly what Terry Randall said left wing ideology with subsidizing wind farms (that cant generate base load) and climate change and 200mill to Paris accords etc and the fact that there were approx 227 million welfare payments made last year in a country of 25 million half of which don't pay any net tax !is it any wonder we are in the state we are in.If rates kick up globally (not likely for 12-18 months ) then we will be in a world of hurt .The only reason we came out of the GFC half ok was due to China's demand for our resources not Rudds ham-fisted attempts at economic heroism. And god help us if we get Shorten in with a 50 % renewable s target which will send electricity even higher ,further eroding the one competitive advantage that we had which was cheap power,as we pay very expensive wages. Its not a pretty picture when you follow the dots with all this. Turnbull is as bad as Shorten they should all pretty much with a few exceptions, hang there head's in shame for the mess they have made of this country and for its future .

Would you take gutherson over Pearce ?

Unfortunately Gutho was already damaged goods when he left having already had one knee reconstruction. Now he has had another knee reconstruction. While this will probably mean he will likely spend the majority of his remaining career at 5/8 rather than an outside back, I don't think he's worth the risk.

Gutho has talent, no doubt about that. And may be a local junior, but IMO we have kinda dodged a bullet there. We went through years cringing every time Snake got tackled hoping like hell he wouldn't get up limping. We don't need another decade of that.

So I would actually take a relatively injury free Pearce over Gutho.

As to Rothfield's article and his claim that we only have $500,000 left to spend? Pure speculation because the truth is that only the club and maybe some inside the NRL would actually know how much we have left to spend.....and if you think he isn't trying to improve Cronulla's position in trying to get Pearce then you're dreaming. He and everyone else knows that if we do sign Pearce then we have the spine that can win a premiership, and if there is one thing Buzz hates more than closing time at the pub, its Manly winning premierships.
