This is what I know to be true;
1, Manly had a letter/contract of intent signed and registered with NRL, this was withdrawn on Thursday by his manager as other clubs had vented a higher financial interest to which Manly offered
2. After such, Pearce has had further meetings with Manly, Cronulla (yesterday) and Newcastle today, despite being offered $1.2 mil a season for 2 years at Newcastle, and whilst I had lunch with their sponsorship person at supercars today (and YES it was an awesome day)!, I did ask about Pearce and was told he was a $1mil to one he was going there and they expect him to sign with Manly - they didn't know I was a Manly man.
Thanks for your insights SL

Some of our fringe players must be feeling a tad nervous whilst behind the scenes the powers-that-be try to come up with enough $, yet stay under the cap, to secure Pearce :mm:

When people ask what we get out of Pearce it blows my mind.

We had pretty much the perfect halves pairing in Foran and chez we had a running and controlled half and we had a brilliant off the cuff half who could take the Line on too. Things broke down for varying reasons and those have come to light over a number of years.

We then entered a rebuild stage we sorted our fullback and half and worked on 5/8 and hooker and I would say the hooker is now set api had a whale of a year and proved me wrong.

We still have some work out wide and in the pigs.

However getting Pearce means we have one of the most balanced halves combinations in the Comp. Pearce naturally plays left but roams very well too. He takes on the line and runs more like foz.

We get a halves combination that makes every opposition have to guess the play and not read it.

It settles us for 3 to 5 years and let’s us start to build around them rather than playing roulette with stopgaps
It’s all about your spine.

Baz the magnet for Pearce to sign deal

THIRD-YEAR coach Trent Barrett has become an elite player magnet for Manly.

Top players want to play under Barrett – including Mitchell Pearce.

Make no mistake, the Sea Eagles is Pearce’s first choice of club to join despite the fact he may have to play for less at other clubs.

However, Manly will have to get somewhere in the vicinity of what clubs such as Cronulla and Newcastle are offering to snare the former Sydney Rooster.

Barrett’s two seasons as an NRL coach have impressed many in the game – especially players. He is a player-orientated coach who insists in a one-in, all-in approach. Players improve under his coaching.

Barrett is at Manly for at least the next three years and wants to stay longer.

He again showed his desire to buy into the Manly history and culture this week when he made a presentation to the Manly Leagues Club board.

The home of the Sea Eagles is a major part of the club’s DNA and Barrett assured directors he wanted a close working relationship.

His passion for the Sea Eagles impressed club greats such as Max Krilich, Alan Thompson, Ian Thomson, Gary Thoroughgood and veteran official Warwick Bulmer.

HM the most interesting part of that article was a tiny snippet tucked away a bit further down:

"RESOLUTION LOOMING

"FOR many years now the district football club and the Sea Eagles have drifted apart to the point there was hardly any close association.

"I believe that’s about to change at the annual general meeting on Thursday.

"And that’s a good thing for all concerned."

ZtC forgot to reference his 'FC is irrelevant' Manly Daily piece from a few years back

Most Fans and past Players have kept the faith and love of our 70 year history :inlove:

PS. Alan Thompson (5/8 extraordinaire) has replaced Bob O'Reilly on the FC Board

I saw a comment that Pearce talking to Knights as well. At a guess (I do not know how good it is .. I did not go to uni) I think he has signed with Manly but will not be announced until both the 10 day cooling period passes and the resolutions of our caps situation with the NRL. He needs a back up plan if we cannot deliver.

Only been up there the once mate, being yesterday, but I agree I think they’re in with a chance given the cash they’re throwing.

If they miss out on him as they have with Bird, Maloney, Graham etc they’re struggling.

Got to admit I'm perplexed, some of you say well that fits.... so be it.

Would you bet your left nut on that?

I agree, plus take a look at the last 2 premiers, Sharks and the scum, they haven't had to shed many players at all,in fact they keep signing players. So what happened to,if you win a premiership you will have to shed players. We have shed more players than both these teams, haven't bought anyone big recently, haven't won a comp recently, but we are somehow close to the cap. Go figure
Sharks haven't had to shed players? Maloney,Brown,Mortimer,Bird,Beale,Tagataese,Latimore,Heighnington,Cherrington,Williams..........
