All we are saying, is Pearce off !

Can somebody explain to me how the Sharks have $800k more than is? We won’t have Matai & Snake anymore & Cap goes up & we’ve only added a couple of reserve graders & lost a lot more.

Dugan in for Bird. Probably on more coin as Bird wasn’t established when they signed him.
Moylan is on more than what Maloney was getting too!
They’ve re-signed Gallen & Lewis & a few others & lost Heighington who I’d assume was cheapish.
My maths wasn’t that bad at school but we must have more money spare than almost anyone or I deadset give up!
I imagine a few of our players, Uate, Sironen, Perret and perhaps Hastings were still on contracts from other clubs that were being topped up by them, and now we have to pay full freight for them.
You also have the situation, were players like Fonua Blake, Parker and Winterstein, are getting increases on their initial contracts.
The situation worked for the Shark because it was actually only a $250-300,000 outlay extra for Moylan, and Penrith were happy with the swap so they weren't seeking a transfer fee, whereas if we really wanted Moylan , it would have cost us an extra $500,000, because Green was only getting around $350,000 and Penrith would have wanted a transfer as they weren't keen on a swap with Green.

He wants his payday, mate. Warriors are throwing serious cash at him. You know how well things go when a club forces a player to stay.

If I knew I could be earning up to $500k per more in NZ, I'd have a bee in my bonnet, too.

Disappointing to see Barrett unable to secure his man. I thought The Panthers boys loved him. Maybe not that much then, hey.

Whilst our 6 for next year is still a bit of a mystery I am not overly dissapointed that we didn’t get Moylan. However, it is a concern that we appear to have lost our aura as a favourable destination for elite players. I suppose we will just have to win a couple of premierships. Bugger oh the pain of being a manly supporter.

I thought it was mentioned manly withdrew from chasing him as soon as the extra 250k plus was put on his 900k price. no way we could of afforded him. thats why we withdrew. we were favs until it would of cost us 1.2 million a year.

Sharks did a swap deal so both parties thought it would suit. 250k was waved from the panthers. no way we pay that for moylan when green is on 300k. i reckon if trying to also sign thompson manly would only be able to make pierce an offer of 750-800k max.

Nz dollars?

Manly could upgrade him to keep him happy if the other deals don’t come off.

Said on another thread that the Mole reckons the Thompson deal may not happen now because Manly is chasing bigger fish... Wonder who the bigger fish are?
The bigger fish must be rep player(s), because Thompson is a top-line first grader but not rep level so far.
A Panthers backrower perhaps? Or Shannon Boyd, Klemmer, JWH...SBW?

Tried to do a rough calculation on where Manly "s cap situation may be at present and it could still be feasible to recruit approximate contract value players , such as Thompson and Pearce but only just , so could still be a problem securing both if they were to prefer Manly as their new club . The Panthers back row contenders as well as the back line also seems a bit congested now . So a player like James Fisher - Harris for example would be a handy pick up if it was just Pearce that could be acquired and another forward recruit would still be preferred instead of Thompson . Personally have no problems with our current back rowers Siro . Winterstein and Lane but seems the club is still seeking a quality back rower . Thompson would probably not be the only back rower available now , but with a choice between Pearce and Thompson , i would say Junior , and especially with Green maybe preferring to be else where next season .

think recruitment is playing very smart. Have locked in the 'stars' long term who are all still young. So looking forward you can't really plan to have say an instant 700k free up for a big purchase in end of 18 into 19 as a big name retires or isn't renewed, because there isn't any until maybe 20/21 if all goes to plan. There will be small amounts here and there as those older / cheaper hole pluggers are no doubt moved on, so i think the only real movement after this off season in the market will come in any cap rises or ability to score good TPAs which is why this off season spending is pretty important. I reckon after all the topping up and re-signings, there is some cash still up the sleeves and they have been just sitting and waiting for the probably 2 biggish buys they can squeeze in. They just have to be smart buys as the goal does look to be to really have a stable squad unlike the past couple of seasons.

If Manly dont get Pearce, I would be offering Green an upgraded contract for the next 2-3 years during which time we can be looking around for a replacement when Green has had his day. 5/8 is too important a position to risk on unknowns.

Green is on around $350,000, which is around what he's worth, [would be more if he has a high percentage goal kicker], however the warriors think he's worth more to them.
We have three choices, upgrade his contract for this year and extend, let his contract run it's course for this year, or let him go to the Warriors if/when we find a replacement, but I wouldn't be giving him an upgrade for this year only just to make him happy.

IMO Pearce is easily the more complete player when compared to Moylan and Maloney. If we get him, we will have top three halves pairing in the game. Thurston/Morgan, Cleary/Maloney, Pearce/DCE. BOOM! And if we managed to pick up a quality back, then we are in the mix with four other clubs in terms of having the best 1-17 in the comp.

Rothfield tweeted this afternoon Sharks are a big chance to get him.

Who would you rather as your halves partner, DCE or Townsend?
