Alex Johnston

over 100m yeah I agree, over 30m I'm not so sure. Bozo was electric off the mark especially in the early 70s.

Did sprint training with Frog's eyes .... he was a freak over 20 and 30 ... never ran against Bozo, but having watched him from up close ... I would rate him very good acceleration and very good top speed, but a standout (against top runners) at neither ... his biggest asset also wasn't a step, although he could, it was more a swerve and acceleration ... he was just a 9/10 package at everything ....

Gill McDougall once told me the suprising attribute Bozo had was his strength and power through the hips - unbelievable balance...

The question with Johnston, is without quality ball like he gets at Souths (e.g if Tom gets injured again next season), is he going to be any improvement on what we have, especially considering he'll probably cost nearly double compared to our current backs?

Seems to get rag-dolled just as much as Garrick and Parker, and if you take away a lot of his tries that he scores without a defender even touching him, I'm not convinced he's worth the price tag.

Also, if he was a decent back-up fullback option, why didn't he play there last night? Although named at FB, he was still on the wing.

So kind of like most wingers then?
Like most, there are a few exceptions. A player like Semi was the perfect modern winger, big fast and strong. Could break a game open by himself.
It's a position we need to strengthen, Tafua is past it. Whether it's a player already from the club or someone we bring in like Saab or AJ.
AJ is the safe bet, would get the job done but how much do you pay? Saab is still learning the game but has more X factor. Both are not built so don't expect big post contact kick return metres but they are a big improvement on Jorge.
Maybe Hops Jr will eventually be the back up full back?
I still think we need another genuine half.
See how Shuster goes, but I would not count not having a look at bringing Foran back on the cheap. With two decent halves the backs would get better ball. Also pushes Walker to centre.

I think Saab is a better target and imagine DCE putting bombs up for him and Tom, would be very hard to defend. I think we should be targeting Saab, starling and sironen. Cust/schuster at 5/8 and suli and Walker in centres with Parker as backup

I think he is and always has been a bit overrated. Offers little as a fullback replacement and poor defensively on the wing. He is quick and a reasonable finisher (but still not the best). He doesn’t do well carting the ball up early in the set.

Who do you consider the best finisher?
Do you want a finisher with few mistakes or one that can carry the ball out on 1 or 2 but has more than a few errors in them?

Addo - Carr strike rate is around 75% who most would say is the best currently.
Johnston is around 70% - leading tryscorer 2014, third 2015, = 2nd 2017, =2nd 2020
Neither are what you would call big on taking the hit ups.

Fergo has a strike rate of 50% but for some reason is the " big modern day winger" that everyone is after.

I know what type of winger I'd rather have.

I'd say Johnston, JAC and Vunivalu are the top three strike wingers off contract this year. Need to make a play for two of them imho
