Ryan you are saying Smith is a waste of cash, mainly because he is too old but you are wanting us to sign Barrett.  You do realise Barrett is 31, asking around $400k and has a history of being injured a fair bit?

Garts - I'm saying that Barrett is an ex State of Origin and Australian Representative player that would be selected as a specialist 5/8 every day of the week.

Smith is a player that The Dragons / The Rabbits and now The Cowboys want to off load. He's a player whose role Nth Qld is looking to fill by someone else.

They are totally different players.

Smith also suggested that he'd like to play IF his body holds up. That's a bit of a concern.

I also think Barrett and Foran are the only players we really need guys.

If we lose Beaver / Bell / Willow next year, we could be:-

01. Brett Stewart
02. Michael Robertson
03. Jamie Lyon
04. Steve Matai
05. Michael Bani
06. Trent Barrett (signed for 2 years)
07. Matt Orford
08. Jason King
09. Matt Ballin
10. Brent Kite
11. Anthony Watmough
12. Adam Cuthbertson
13. Glenn Stewart

14. Heath Le'Strange
15. Josh Perry
16. George Rose / Mark Bryant
17. Glenn Hall / Jack Afamasaga

We'd then be developing the Foran brothers in our NYC & PL.
Halden would be back in Premier League.

Combinations next year:-

NYC -
06. Kieran Foran
07. Daly Cherry-Evans

NSW Cup -
06. Clint Halden
07. Liam Foran

and there it is. Our 1/2's are looking good for a long time to come. Also, Halden (6), and Liam Foran (7) would be ready to have a shot at 1st grade in 09 in 1st grade SHOULD injury occur. That's right - a specialist 5/8, and a specialist 1/2 ready to fill the shoes of the RIGHT position.

THEN, you'd have to think players like Neumann, Hargreaves, Edwards, Williams, Wells, Mauro & co. are busting to step up.

Honestly guys - forget Bailey / Smith. Get Barrett.

Halden better get a rush on, he'll be 28 by the start of next season and quickly heading in to the "never was" category.

I think we will be priced out of the Trent Barrett market, Cronulla love paying overs so whoever gets him will be paying too much. Would love him here at a reasonable price though.

Liam Foran would be my priority at the moment, he has come through an excellent system at Melbourne.

Bailey could fill the void for now though, he could slide in to lock also I would assume if we happen to nab a good 6 or someone within the club steps up.

I remember not so long ago, a vigorous debate about Halden and quite a few people on here were telling me he was better than Matai!! I believe DSM5 was one of them.

Where is the great Halden now?

Shoulder injury, we haven't heard much about it but it seemed like an "indefinite" injury when I spoke to a few of the players earlier in the year. He didn't have any strength in it at the time and it wasn't coming back as quickly as he liked, and obviously nothing has changed since then considering he hasn't returned...

Halden looked ok when he played a few games late last year. If he hadn't of gotten injured, I reckon he would be getting a start this year.

At his age, I can't see him coming back now.

Ryan, you made the same comments about the signings of Robertson, Hall and L'Estrange to name a few, how have they turned out for us ???

Cast your mind back 1 year, and Cuthbertson couldn't make a Manly side unless injuries hit as well, so what ? Bailey clearly has some talent the times i have seen him play

Eh? I have always said Hall was great, and have always wanted him in 1st grade. As for Le'Strange - I was copping flack pre-season for suggesting he start in front of Ballin. Also he is frequently next door, so I get 1st hand his passion for being here.

Do you have me mixed up with someone else mate?

Robertson I admit I was concerned about his ability to get across the line when he signed on, as did the media at the time (Manly Daily).

Again - Barrett would be better than Bailey @ 5/8 in my opinion. See below as to why:-

Fair enough then mate, I thought you bag nearly every signing we make, everyone on here was ripping into Hall about how crap he would be etc, same with Robertson, but must have mixed you up with others

I wouldn't mind Barrett, but would be very happy with Bailey as well.

Till next weeks bandwagon comes in and Ryan jumps on.

Only bandwagon I'd jump on Fro, is the one that lines up behind you, person after person, girl / boy, girl / boy hands on the person in fronts hips, listenning to Hawain music and going cha, cha, cha, cha, cha, cha..whilst kicking slightly to the right every 3 or 4 steps.

You are thinking of a conga line Ryan, which is equally as much fun :)

Especially when populated by "suckholes", cant remember who that classic was wriiten by.

The one and only Mark Latham

OK has anyone seen Liam Foran play? Honestly everyone has gone crazy  about them since the news article came out in the daily about the two brother, which was written by MANLY's media manager Zorba.

Now I'm not saying hes a bad player or a good player except we have nothing to judge him on unless anyone has watched him play.

Kieren i watched Once (not allot i know) but all i can say was when he did play against the Bulldogs was that he seemed to be a good player but nothing spectacular. I actually was impressed on the DAY with our young halfback cherry-evans.

As for Barret if we signed him it would cost way too much as others clubs would be paying allot of money.

Personally i still rate Jamie Soward unless hes resigned, Baily seemed Ok, Smith would do the job and fill-in for a couple of years he also fits into our defensive mould. As i have said we don't need a great 5/8 just someone who can PLAY 5/8 look we got into the GF with a centre in that position imagine what an average-good player could do.

Which article was written by Zorba? I haven't seen any of his column's dedicated to these two personally, but something might have slipped past me.

I've seen Liam a couple of times on TV. He's had good games and bad games - just as everyone in the Toyota Cup has...I can only think of one bloke who has been consistently impressive, and that is ex-Manly lower grader Daniel Harrison, the awesome bloodnut from the Doggies. Liam was blooded into the Storm's first grade squad when they went over for the World Club Challenge. They had a few injuries of course, but it does show you how highly regarded he is at that club - a good sign, no? This time in 12 months he should be getting a run in first grade somewhere. He's destined to play 1 or 2 games this year around Origin time as well you would expect, possibly just off the bench to fill Geyer's role (assuming Inglis and Smith are both picked and Geyer moves into 5/8 or hooker with Aitken taking the other position).

As for Kieran, well he is one of the youngest kids in the entire Toyota Cup (at 17, he's basically 2 full years younger than the majority there), and he's playing in the halves. He's also putting in some pretty classy displays even if he has been outplayed by Cherry-Evans in the occasional game. In the grand scheme of things he is still very, very raw. He's also only been playing in the halves for really...well, less than 12 months. Before that he was a centre. His development in the 5/8 has been quite brilliant.

Kieran has been a regular in the junior rep teams and played Australian schoolboys last year, which is pretty good considering he would have been 16 at the time - and picked up a few man of the match performances - not bad for a guy playing against guys 2 years older than him.

The thing i like about Kieran is his tenacity and will to win - he is a real tough kid.
