2nd Row

No. Mermaid Tavern he owned with a few lads went down in gfc. He was fifo mining then working at Kirra pub but that’s being redeveloped now.
Great bloke.Wouldnt mind him right now in the back row. Bit of trivia. His long time best mate “ Hollywood Pete “ , an old manly lower grade larrikin halfback and junior rep coach in the 70s is Bradman Bests grandfather. Another one I wouldnt mind.lol
Heard he likes a punt too.

He was a great player, would still cut it in the modern game I reckon. Guys like he and Menzies are just good footballers

Pity he couldn't have steered Best our way, he'd be real handy about now at left centre. Especially as Parker is about to turn himself into the next Nathan Green.

Only going by what we could expect Des to go with. I'd still have Foz over Schuster right now, but I do think Cust should start at hooker.
So what your saying is that Des will kill the kids confidence by playing him out of position. Hmmmm, sounds like a really stupid idea to me. Hope your reading this Desmond!

super player one of my favs. Susan how are his knees now. I would imagine he is hobbling around these days?

I've been saying that for ages ,I even posted it on here I reckon it's his best position
I think we might find out over the next couple of weeks. Who knows if given the opportunity he may make that post a winner.

I think Parker played some backrow in juniors
Maybe go alright there as is a slow back but a reasonably fast forward, but if he continually gets KO'd in the backs, could end ugly.

Previously thought that Parker may have had some time in the juniors at 2 nd row but apparently not . Don"t want to get into coaching comparison issues but clearly recall that Barrett had Parker on the bench in 2017 in one game against the Panthers with the intention of bringing him on for a 2 nd row stint but Siro and Frank Winterstein played the full 80 .. So even back then , 2 nd row for him was being considered . Don "t see Parker as a version of Nathan Green , more of a Gavin Cooper type with a bit more pace and mobility . Anyway , may not eventuate but 2 nd row stocks are down and could be just worthwhile giving Parker a run there and he may well surprise in giving a good account of himself .

Randall was tough as a mallee bull from the age of two bear. The old timers talk about him and Steve Knight wandering the beaches together like Greek gods.Tough hard roosters regardless where they played.

Randall also did not get knocked out every two weeks in the centres or second row even in the days of the headhunters

I think you are missing my point though. Let’s just agree to disagree on talent.
My point is I don’t want to see him get knocked out again!
And this increases the chances many times over.
It’s a talent issue at a basic level for sure but in reality if he was passable or not in the second row who really cares. The medical side far outweighs that. And as a punter I’d wager a lot of cash on multiple concussions. It’s so damn obvious.

Not worth it when you actually pay other blokes at the club good money to actually play n the forwards. Wtf will they be thinking.
Probably just go on winning and enjoying their footy with Blacktown I suppose.

Susan, I'm one of those old timers and knew both of them a little, though not well. Let me give you some history here.

Terry went to Beacon Hill High, after I saw him at Brookvale Public. Knight was at Manly Boys High a few years ahead of me at the same school. They wouldnt have known each other well early on because Beacon Hill High played League, Manly Boys High, Union. So Terry played league, Steve Union.

Steve played for Manly RU for several years. When he switched to League, it was to Wests. He came across to the Sea Eagles in 1978 and together with Terry was in the Premiership winning side of that year. The reference to them being two bulls on the beach would probably be during that period. They were both by them well developed and potent.

Steve was 3 years older than Terry and from a different school, and played different sports. Its therefore uncertain that they would have been great mates or even known each other well, until Steve came to Manly. Cant say that for sure but as I said I well remember Terry because I had some association with him in his younger years. Didn't really know Steve because he was two years ahead of me at Manly Boys High.

Not sure who the 'old timers were you are referring to, but I suspect they are referring to the late 70s. And you are right. I attended most matches in 1970, as I did most years back then (my heroes were Billy Bradstreet, Nck Yakich, Pogo Morgan, Bob Batty, Les Hannigan, Alec Tennant. Stanton etc from that period) and Terry didnt seem to suffer concussion that I recall. But then few players were reported with that condition probably because the game was slower and not quite as intense as it is today, and the medical concerns back then were looser, so many wouldnt have been even spoken of.. A lot of players suffer it in todays game.

I can say what Terry was like on the field back in 1970, because having known him at school, as I did a few players such as Garry Thoroughgood, Len Diett who was teacher of mine, and so I took a special interest in watching his development in the game. just as an aside a few years back attended the 50th anniversary of Year 12 graduates from 1968 Manly Boys High. And they all look so old.

Maybe Igor and Steve Knight were lifesavers , that is what Susan may have been referring to . Used to see plenty of images of Igor on the northern beaches , even just casually , probably an attraction there for Knight as well

Love the history Bear.Funny story about Terry. Was at a cowboys box with him and his wife ten or so years ago and he was telling me how he felt really unsafe walking around that pub area near the water in Townsville.

Coudnt believe it .Jesus how unlucky woukd you be to pick him as your mugging victim. Still looked in great shape. Lovely man too.

Knight was an absolute beast. Incredible physique for a bloke in those days where footy was virtually amateur. Got a lot of lower grade manly mates of that era who talk about the two of them and their exploits. Not sure why but GC is a haven for manly old boys. Great ex player/fan days but with Pogo Morgan gone from running the show not sure who will be organising now.

I worked with Bill Bradstreet’s wife, in one of my earliest jobs. Met him a couple of times. Was a good bloke. Nerida his wife was a lovely person too.

it is funny the people you meet over the years who you admire at a distance and then suddenly somehow fortuitously, you either meet them or their partners.

Early on in my role in parole one of the secretaries at Bankstown was Keith Page's wife (many would not know Keith. He was a respected first grade referee during the 60s and 70s). Then through a fellow female worker, I ended up meeting her partner at a dinner. He was Rod Jackson. A fellow parole officer I met at Newcastle turned out to be Dennis Ward. I then worked in later years with the wife of Eric Simms. And during my involvement at the Public Service Association low and behold I met a fellow unionists, Mal Cochrane and Darrell Williams. And at one stage I was involved on the other side of the spectrum with John Elias (but I wont go into how). Quite a thrill to meet these people, many of whom I admired over the years in the game, and getting to hear their recollections in the game. All were nice people, and John Elias is as wacky as he was on the TV footy shows. One of the things I treasure in remembering my 70 years of life.
