St George Illawarra’s injury plight has meant they have brought a player out of retirement with the ex-Dragon Gerard Beale returning to the club.

Beale retired at the end of last year but has spent the seeing playing in the Queensland Cup. The utility back spent two seasons at the Dragons between 2013-14 before moving to Cronulla where he was part of their premiership-winning roster.

GUN FORWARD MAY LEAVE DOGHOUSE

Rampaging forward Renouf Atoni may be lost to the Bulldogs next season - because he is sick of losing.

Atoni has looked good in a struggling Canterbury side this year and he is in the sights of at least three clubs - the Sharks, Dragons and Cowboys.

The 25-year-old Kiwi-born prop is happy enough at the Bulldogs, who are keen to re-sign him.

But Atoni has won just 11 of the 39 games he has played - and the lure of that winning feeling may see him pack his bags and leave in 2022.

The Dragons have launched a bid to lure out of favour Tigers star Moses Mbye to the club mid-season.

The Sydney Morning Herald reported Mbye, who was granted permission by the Tigers to negotiate with rival clubs for 2022, is keen to move on as soon as the right deal becomes available to him.

Dale Finucane admits he could be forced out of the Melbourne Storm due to salary cap pressures.

The 29-year-old has yet to receive a contract extension offer from the Storm with NRL.com reporting the Dragons, Titans, Bulldogs and Cowboys have all positioned themselves for a crack at the forward.

Former Raiders star Blake Austin could soon be back in the NRL with the Gold Coast Titans reportedly emerging as the frontrunner to sign him.

Austin played 88 games for the Green Machine before moving to the Super League in 2018 where he has been playing for Warrington Wolves.

Warriors centre Adam Pompey will remain with the club until the end of the 2023 NRL season following his breakthrough season last year.

The Warriors have also extended hooker Taniela Otukolo’s contract to the end of the 2024 season.

The Dragons have reportedly informed off-contract fullback Matt Dufty to find another home for next season with the club poised to enter the race for Melbourne's Nicho Hynes.

Broncos enforcer Matt Lodge is reportedly on the brink of signing with the Newcastle Knights.

Fox League’s James Hooper first reporter last week that Adam O’Brien intended to sign the 25-year-old after missing out on Kotoni Staggs

Now Seven’s Chris Garry reports the deal could be struck within the next fortnight with the Broncos likely to contribute to his salary.

“Matt Lodge close to inking deal with Newcastle... clubs still arguing over how much Broncos pay,” Garry tweeted.

“Lodge has been playing excellent footy lately, will be a good pickup for Knights with Brisbane chipping in.

Knights playmaker Blake Green has announced his immediate retirement after 14 seasons in the top grade in Australia and England, with Newcastle now able to target two mid-season recruits.

Oliver Gildart has pledged to end his Wigan career on a high after his move to the NRL was finally announced.

After weeks of speculation, the worst-kept secret in the game was confirmed last night, with Gildart moving to Wests Tigers at the end of the season.

And having yet to play for the Warriors this year because of a shoulder injury, the Test centre is determined to leave his hometown club in style.

WINGER IN DEMAND

Manly winger Reuben Garrick is off contract and attracting much attention from rival clubs, according to his agent David Riolo. “We’ve spoken to Manly but they’re not where we want to be at this stage.” Being such an accomplished goal-kicker adds to Garrick’s value. He has an 80 per cent strike rate this year going into the game against the Knights.

Incoming Sharks coach, Craig Fitzgibbon, has informed Shaun Johnson, Aaron Woods & Josh Dugan they are not needed next year. All are off contract at the end of 2021.
