Totally agree with globaleagle, this has been my position for a very long time. Until a non-corrupt and a party with no personal interest, has a good chat with all the players to point out the bleeding obvious (that they are the NRL), then the circus will just continue.

The players are the NRL, without them there is no game. Once they realise this, and stick together, the no fault Turdberg policy will have zero merit like all other ridiculous crap that comes out of his mouth.

Without players there is no brand, without a club assisting in the players payments, growth, well-being and comfortable place of employment (players could not do this on their own). Without supporters clubs would be ineffective and struggle to stay alive.

Then you have the mental conditioning mafia (NRL), that come in and control all three (players, clubs, supporters). They take the biggest profits, pay their bosses more than anyone one else in this NRL circus, and control everything/everyone. To a point that they not only control a players working environment, but also have control outside their working lives.

When the dust settles, take the players out of the equation and see what we are left with? what brand do we have? This is no different to the illusion of money and fiat currency created out of thin air by banks and governments. The NRL are the pretenders, come in and control everything and everyone, but really are at the bottom of the food chain and least required in this sporting business.

Excellent summary there Urulion. These players don't know the power they can exert. I recall an example of collective bargaining in a totally different environment, with the Writers Guild in 2007-8 when the writers of TV shows went on strike for 14 weeks after studio bosses diminished their pay. As a result a huge number of actors supported their cause and the studios were forced to accept terms that though falling short of what the writers were seeking, were a significant improvement. It almost brought the studios to their knees and resulted in many shows being cancelled. But the studios had forgotten that the writers were an essential part of TV productions and had not respected their value. Same applies to Rugby League players. They, as a group, dont seem to realise just how powerful they are.

He is a workhorse. Would really stiffen up our middle. Lots of experience in big games, learnt from players like cronk. I think he would be a smart signing for 1 or 2 years til the Fainu incident clears up. Yes he has had injuries last two years. All players go through them. Most importantly he knows what it takes to win premierships be it with the roosters or not. Would be good to have in and around the squad
He was a workhorse but can't do anything from the rehab bench. :shake:

Plenty of past Manly hookers on Staff already to teach the next batch :nerd:

What good is a workhorse if he spends 90% of his time grazing out in the pasture because he's too beat up to do anything else?

You may as well want to re-sign Foz. And that's no disrespect to Foran, its just common knowledge that his body is really no longer up to the job.

If Manly did ever look at Jake Friend as he is now I hope its nothing more than a last ditch, we're bloody desperate look.

I'd rather the club went after another up and coming 9, someone who could fill the 14 if Fainu comes back, or vice versa. Friend doesn't do much for the future and that's where this squad should be looking. We might not be fully primed for a tilt at the premiership in 2020 but we are very close. I would hate to see the club make a decision in 2020 that hurts our chances in 2021-2025.

I remember the writer’s strike but there’s a big difference. No audience member was ever asked to go and cheer their guts out for someone on rape or assault charges.
It really is very tricky and wouldn’t surprise me if the club’s were a little relieved that the NRL stand down policy takes it out of their hands and keeps their sponsors happy. Leaving Manase out of it, if De Belin played for Manly I simply couldn’t cheer for him even though I believe to my bones that he deserves his day in court.

Is it too much to ask to have a family tree posted online which sets out the relationship between fainu, fainu’s brother, haumole, big buck and the hopoates?

I’ve noticed on social media they all call each other Toko (cousin). Seems to work well.

Point taken Budgie. I was really speaking In a general sense regarding the power players can exert.

Mind you I've been virulently opposed to the principle of the no fault rule from the beginning. The reason has a history with me regarding a couple of work mates I represented, who were suspended for 18 months on accusations I knew to be contrived by the commissioner responsible. They were paid, but went through dreadful persecution that led to both being pensioned off on psychological grounds. Both were totally exonerated and one sued the department and won $30,000 in compensation.

I know this is different, but I also think of Stewart and the prejudging that was done. Despite the court's ruling, I am convinced the rule is contrary to the principles of innocent until proven guilty. That's not to say either deBelin or Fainu are innocent, but such action implies that. Different if the person holds a position responsible for public safety. These are just footballers, risking no one harm on the field. The principle of guilty until proven innocent is based on the Napoleanic code, which we rejected long ago.

Yep. And I think false accusations are a much bigger problem than the society acknowledges.

Do you think that the Roosters would pay some of his freight . smart footballer but certainly has had his injury issues in recent seasons . Maybe after Fainu 's next court appearance , there will be a clearer indication of his prospects of being available for Manly in 2020 .
Would be good if they would but uncle nick is a good negotiator and probably wouldn't budge. Then again, i don't really know haha

I also remember the writers strike but on a sporting note the NHL (ice hockey) has has a few players strikes.
In recent memory 2012-2013 the whole season was cancelled, 2004-2005 about half the season was lost. There were also strikes in 1992 and 1994-1995

Actually the NFL, NBA, and MLB have all had strikes. Mainly about players wanting more money and the billionaire owners crying poor.

But that's all to reiterate your point that an organised and well represented group of players wont get pushed around by head office.

I have a sneaky suspicion Fainu will be cleared. Hopefully sooner rather than later but I reckon our little hooker will be sweet. Let's hope he learns a valuable lesson and comes back even better and more determined and help deliver us a couple more premierships
Hope your right mate.

I remember reading his mum saying they were scared he was going to be deported to NZ over her porno vid.

He seems like a good young kid. Hope he gets thru this and is back on field for us

Not sure if he has a strong family but boy they need to get him under control.

There’s 1000’s of islander boys who never get a chance at being anything so if I could get in his ear I’d be saying these four words “ don’t **** up again”.
