i think he had a clause where he could leave prior to completing his contract only if it was to play union, if so Bulldogs, Sharks, Roosters and Eels have no chance.

No. Never keep a player who does't want to be there. His best days are well and truly behind him and as a rugby league player he's just not worth the money he's asking. Probably not even worth that much as a union player but good luck to him if he can get it.
