They were TV archives. The clips were originally prepared for the news. I believe due to licensing conditions, the commentary had to be removed or lowered where you just could not hear it.Are these tv archives @eagle66 ? The ones without commentary are intriguing.
This is the classic manly, it is so good to see the attacking flair. Only having grand final discs from that era doesn't show the full extent of how awesome our players were, because the gfs are a bit more conservative.
How is the dog on the field - what a classic
I add my thanks, absolutely precious stuff, would have loved it even more if you had said you had full games...but good on you,They were TV archives. The clips were originally prepared for the news. This also happened with old footage of shows like Dr Who. Every now and and then copies turn up in places like Africa as they also passed copies through a chain of affiliates. There was an "Educational" show I saw on the ABC when TV's had vacuum tubes that was pre-Goodies featuring Graeme Garden and Tim Brooke-Taylor (no Bill Oddie) that has been lost forever. It made an impression on me.One of the great tragedies was the taping over of most of the early Amco cup highlights.
The 1st, won by western division, has absolutely no footage at all because the tape was used to film number 96 or something.
That was how they did it back then.
If only they knew.
I have heard that the league is buying all the old footage off the networks to keep in the archives and hopefully release.
Thanks @sheridanstand78. I sat in your stand at the SCG for that Manly v Easts 1976 match. My memory was that we lost a few of our players before the game, Fulton being one of the. Easts got out to a big lead, remembering that a two try lead often was a match winning lead and Manly slowly chipped away to that bomb when the hooter went and we scored in the corner. I was adamant that it was a try, I had clear view (so I tell myself) as I was nearly in line with the touchline from the Sheridan Stand. I don't think it was TV but it might have been in the papers that showed that it was a try. Later, I found out that the touch judge could have been a Manly guy as his son was a Manly junior. I might have to go into the dungeon to find the programme from the day and see.Thank you so much Eagle66!! You have brought back some amazing memories for me for when I first supported the team. The Penrith game in 76 I especially remember as my dad took me and I fell in love with the club that day. Wow such nostalgia and 41 years on the love is just the same for me.
I also remember that game against Easts, The chooks got out to a 17-3 lead and we were right up against it but showed the quality of would be premiers by storming back and we were denied at the death losing 18-19Thanks @sheridanstand78. Totally agree. Wow. That was exactly the same for me. I remember that game very well and even where I sat with my old dad.I also remember that game against Easts, The chooks got out to a 17-3 lead and we were right up against it but showed the quality of would be premiers by storming back and we were denied at the death losing 18-19
1976 was my first full year in supporting the team and I remember those games like they were yesterday. I remember the Balmain game when we got over 25,000 at Brooky and won a great game. That was the start of a brilliant journey for me. Priceless memories, so thanks so much for posting these clips.
I collect footy stuff. Always on the hunt for videos of games. Used to trade a bit. Picked up hundreds of tapes off Bob Fulton and Marty Gurr. Best mate is the historian of the Bulldogs who had been in contact with a lot of players from many clubs. Tim Sheens gave us some of the clips I have been uploading. Pretty well, new old stuff has dried up. Just on the look out for games that clubs recorded themselves pre payTV.Like everyone else. HUGW thanks for posting these. Brings back so many memories. Where did you get them from? Amazing.

Mooney was very underrated. A great finisherLoving the old stuff. Tom Mooney remains my favourite Manly winger. Just ahead of Michael Robertson and Hank Hancock.
