Worst side Ever. Congratulations

It might be a distant memory now... but at the end of Round 4:
  • We were 0 wins from 4 matches in 2021;
  • We had just lost by 40 or more for the second time in 2021;
  • Our points differential was -122;
  • It was our 12th loss from 13 matches to that point

A few people were a bit over the top in their summation and demands but we were performing terribly by any metric.

It cuts both ways. It's easy to be a genius in hindsight after we have won the following 6 of 7 matches and are back into a positive points differential.
Or its easy to remember seasons are not decided after 4 rounds.

Sure be disappointed I sure was.
Sure look for answers I sure did.
Sure wonder if the boys can turn it around I sure did.

But in the end instead if spewing negativity and bile how about actually supporting the players we have?

It never ceases to amaze me how so called supportera turn on their own the moment things dont go well.

Imagine if while doing your job whatever it may be those around you constantly told you how crap you were. What little heart you have. How you are a disgrace to the company.....

Positivity is a strong tool for good.

I reckon the initial thread had merit based on the early season form and was almost an emotional plea crying out for improvement.
Personally felt we would not get the truth until Tom T got back on deck, but also felt the side looked flat and lacked enthusiasm, hoping we could inject the Harper, Guoc, Sipley types who have also been integral in the attitude and form improvement....as Stokesy rightly called, some of these injuries have also turned into a blessing and this is an area that should not be underestimated in the form reversal in recent times.
As for Des, the man has proved himself before and with the right blend on the field and with the dressing room obviously buying into his ways, this side is on the up....
But again its impossible to know if it was just tommy returning or if the new blood made all the difference.

Say the team hadn't had those injuries and Tommy returned and we still went on this run. We will never know.

Des has got the side firing and Tom makes the whole side look good but seriously wtf was Des thinking not playing some of these guys?
Oh i dont know.

What the hell was a multiple Premiership winning man managing top shelf over the hill dinosaur out of touch crap coach thinking when the walls of his castle were falling in???

He was Probably thinking how to fix it and thank god he worked it out....

Yep clearly a few members, including myself, were guilty of premature capitulation. We of little faith. Happy to put my hand up for being wrong on Des's legacy being tarnished by the complete garbage that we all saw on field in the first four rounds. Happy also to say that on many players (Crocker, Carrick, Parker et al), I was completely wrong. Happy to also defend the passionate Manly supporters who are clearly guilty of being passionate Manly supporters. Go Manly.
I just dont get how deathriding your own club and players equates to being a passionate supporter.

Please explain so i can understand the logic behind this ideology..

For me and i only speak for myself I try to support what we have if there is any light at the end of the tunnel. Of course there have been times where my frustration has boiled over but only after a very long and hard road.

It was round 4. Round 4 i tell you. Round 4 after playing 3 competition heavy weights. Tommy not playing. New players bedding in. New defensive structure being implemented.

Blind freddy could see we were in for a rough few weeks until the oil started to flow thru the donk.

Pretty fair call - I kind of see it a multi meal deal with Toms return and the injection of new youthful, enthusiastic players

I think we can all agree that Tom Returning was the catalyst. Dont get me wrong i love seeing the young kids coming thru. Our sides enthusiasm at the moment looks a lot like the kids at the panthers.

I'm Bored. just going to park this here for fun.
Yep just interesting reviewing the comments - lots of Silvertailers cringing right now as they re-read what they said and

Yep the deathriding and at times the outright hope of us losing and joy when we lost because in their small mind that proved Des could not coach, he was a dud, the Club management were hopeless etc etc was just completely pathetic. Gee I certainly had my say on which players I thought needed to be moved on at the end of the year and 7 weeks later I can admit that I was now wrong on most of those calls. But I always said we would come out of it and that Des knew way more than what we did. I always had hope and always believed the turnaround would come. I am a Manly man through and through and will always believe in this club. I do note that most of those deathriders have been very very quiet in their comments - many have disappeared altogether - hiding in the shadows waiting to "gloat" when we lose another few games in a row. This Club is not perfect, Des is not perfect and nor do I ever claim to know it all because I am a gibberer like the rest on here. But I will always support this club and when there is an experienced coach like Des... well as I have said many times... he knows far far more than any of us keyboard warriors.

With the aid of injuries in critical areas as well it may be suggested

I'm certainly not cringing and neither do I believe I was death riding the team but after one win (against the dogs) in thirteen matches and the same players consistently picked regardless of form I reckon myself and others were well entitled to feel that change was necessary, had it not been for the combination of injuries and the return of Turbo who knows how long this pathetic run of losses might have continued, as a devoted Manly fan of 70 years I couldn't be happier with current form but I'm also entitled to vent my spleen if I feel the occasion warrants it

Dce led the worst qld side ever to origin victory. Now for manly.
Let us put this QLD worst side ever to origin victory in perspective ...

The QLD no name Big Game Performers never got Thrashed

The 2020 QLD team on paper were labeled the worst by the arrogant and ignorant NSW folks who should have known better to judge the underdog QLD team who has bitten them on the arse many times before

Yep... makes sense....

He is getting older and obviously his thinking has slowed down... after all he had the last 12 rounds of 2020 to work out Suli, GoJetSki, Sirro and Boyle cant hold a candle to Harper, Guac, Schu and Sips but it took injuries to get him across the line...

If you get bored again you could trawl for the hundres of posts calling for those blokes inclusion... of cause that may not fit your narrative...

Because death riding and calling out mediocrity- well actually WORSE than mediocrity - are the same thing...

You accept 12 weeks of sh*t football and then having the same team trotted out for the worst 4 opening rounds of a season all you like....

I am gonna call it what it is... F*CKING EMBARRASSING...

How do you know that the criticism from everyone didn't have an impact. Saab said it himself.. that all the criticism and even from his father.. made him man up and kick into gear. Make people own up to their actions. It's not always unicorns and rainbows.

Mate I don't need to explain anything to you. Firstly, I have never deathrided the Manly Sea Eagles ever, and never will. You shouldn't confuse deathriding with questioning or constructive criticism of clear and present issues. Especially through the prism of passive aggressive hindsight, via an "I told you so" type of post. Actually, you really have no right to question my support for this club. Neither do you have any right to call into question how any supporter on this site chooses to support the club. My support for Manly has been the longest (and sometimes the most satisfying - and sometimes not) relationship in my life and will remain so. On the other hand as a long-term supporter of the club I have the absolute right to question anything I like. Including but not limited to player performance, team selection, coaching failures, player signings and releases, and club administration issues. I will continue to call into question anything I like, when I want. Including our team selection for the first four rounds, which resulted in the total garbage we delivered in the first rounds. I called it for what it was then, and will continue to do in the future. Go Manly.

Is that retrospective unicorns and rainbows in hindsight Kaza?

It is pretty funny though, reading back... but surely this must be the biggest, most profound about-face in history when it comes to form?

Another thing - I watched the first NSw Cup game, back in err...round 1. The BWSE got a good win, but it was the solidarity they showed that got to me...and the enthusiasm. T Sips, Keppie, Harper, Olakauatu... they were well fired up. There was a scuffle at some stage, and skinny young Harper was the first one in there, looking like thunder, backing his mates. There was aggression, there was confidence, there was solidarity...all the stuff we are seeing now from the firsts. Yes, Tommy Turbo has had a major impact, but the enthusiasm and brotherhood that the young guns are bringing us has - to my incredibly insightful mind - been a massive catalyst for the form we are seeing right now.

It was not just 4 games.

Tom got injured in Round 6 of 2020. Since then, until the end of Round 4 2021, we played 18 matches and lost 15 of them (!). We missed the finals. Tom got re-injured twice in that period without playing a whole game. Minimal team changes were being made especially at the start of this year.

Yes I get that some people went a bit over the top in their criticism... I personally found that calling for a massive clean-out was premature, because something was obviously wrong in the team that was making otherwise decent first-graders look like they never trained together, or continually drop the ball.

I just find it odd that we are now deciding that, at a point when we had lost 15 of our last 18 games... that the players and coach are not fair game for criticism on a football forum...
