What should be our main aim in 2017?

I was just thinking about some realistic goals that we achieve for next season. I don't think we will be Premiers or any thing big like that. So what should be our main aim for 2017?

In my opinion, I think we should start to "rebuild" Fortress Brookvale. So... I think we our goal should be to win every home game in 2017. We can carry that over to 2018 where we will have a good home record and we can next focus on away games and hopefully make the eight. Winning home games should be our NO.1 priority.

What do you think should be our main aim for next year? I want to be optimistic but I just can't at the moment, so I am being realistic and I think Brookvale is the best place to start.

But what do I know?? We could go really well!

Yep home games, mental toughness and just generally preparing for 2018 which should be a year where we are at the pointy end of the ladder, 2017 we should finish around 5-7th

We have the nucleus of a very competitive team. For me it would be to consolidate that core and add to it with several of the "gambles" reaching their potential. Aim top 8.

Next year add two major signings, one centre one forward (either prop or 2nd row depending on which of our potential succeed)

2018 ... win comp again. (easy)

Finish better than 13th, anything else a bonus!!

2018 will be THE year it really all starts.

OK Mark, (and others) put your (crystal) balls on the line and predict which of the following gambles succeed or fail in 2017. I think we need at least 3 to make it, added to our core we will have a very good side.

Meehan
AFB
Locke
Sironen
Lane
Omar
Hopoate
Uate
Lawrence
Kelly

And for fun.

Green
Parker

Build combinations and be unbeatable by the last 8 rounds.
I agree. You can't set something like "put a consistent team out in the park" because injuries control that, but definitely the combos and development of our young guys. No backwards steps.

My money is on at least AFB, Hopoate, Kelly and Omar all to make a real impact. Meehan could be awesome but will need 12 mths to realise it, Uate will bring what he has shown over the years - good hard running, but rocks and diamonds in defence, Lane and Siro are 50/50 calls - I hope at least one kicks on.

I know many on here rate Locke, and he's showed good things in the past, I just don't see a role for him in our 17 - back-up only in my opinion.

As for Lawrence, I love the guy; however, I think we will see him more when injuries hit - hard to say what Barrett is thinking here.

Green will be solid and really help DCE focus more on what he does well. DCE runs into trouble as the primary organiser and when he has multiple scenarios/options running through his head - he needs to play what he sees and run more, I think he will be in stellar form by mid season.

Parker looks like he could be a really good performer, and I hope he sticks around and develops.

The one I worry about is Walker - he hasn't learned that hard mental edge that brings consistent week in, week out performances and solid defence. I hope it comes, but I fear it will be more a case of some great attacking plays every few weeks and bad defensive reads - more a mixed bag than what we would want.

Having a settled halves pairing is where I see one of our greatest opportunities...We all know DCE can be one of the most dominant halves in the comp but injuries and the lack of genuine 5/8 have really curtailed his game in the last couple of seasons.
I like the acquisition of Blake Green and I see him as the perfect foil, he's calm under pressure and has a solid kicking game and can roll up his sleeves in defence.
I see those two guys as creating plenty of opportunities and and some of the older heads and the young enthusiastic guys could really have a field day.

I think players like TT, Uate, Walker, Kelly, Locke, Taufua (if still with us), Omar, Parker...have I forgotten anyone...will all appreciate slicker service from the halves and I suspect their performances will go up a level. I doubt we'll see Stewart or Matai, but if they get back to even 80% of what they were, its Christmas.

To me 2017 is another building year towards 2018 when we'll have money to burn. We have many young options in the forwards and the backs but at this stage its not what i would call depth. The ones that stand up will stay and play on and the rest will be gorne.

Lawrence will keep his mental toughness and bring a grinding mentality to the side along with Meehan, who after time will develop into a beast but I predict he will struggle to a degree early on next year. Parker I feel will have limited opportunities, although Kelly should be a great signing. Locke may be fighting him to get the centre spot but I predict both to do quite good.

However I am most excited about Sironen, Lane and Uate who I feel will do a Darius Boyd and return to form after leaving a ****ty knights side. Sironen, in all the photos provided by manly, looks solid and as though he could bend the line, that combined with skill would prove a fantastic signing although as applies to all our signings so far, it can go either way. Lane seems very happy with where he is again and is overall a great interchange for Sironen or Tapau. Uate has some real power to him meaning we have power on both edges of the field. I feel we'll be a tough team to beat due to our players. Lussick, AFB, Tapau, Sironen, Trbojevic, Taufua, Uate, Meehan(presumably), Hoppa(will be given a chance throughout the year) and well... I suppose you could add Myles. Can't wait to see what turns out to happen next season
