Wayne Cousins ( Media Manager)

Not sure if you realise , but there’s always a lot of comings & goings ( every year )in every club in a staff sense.

They change directions ( clubs ) and staff are moved around often to another role that they don’t want , so more than usual the staff move themselves. For promotions or are disgruntled over what’s just happened , it’s just constant change.

And whilst not in ANY way suggesting Wayne wasn’t fantastic at his job ( he was ) the thing is , no one is irreplaceable.
I am not sure if you realize feathered friend but we have been told that the Media Manager Role has been made redundant
What does redundant mean ?
It means ..
not or no longer needed or useful; superfluous.

Which other clubs Including Powerhouse clubs like the Panthers have made this role redundant ?

One thing for sure and you are Indeed 100% Right
No one is Irreplicable Including Mestrov and Penn

Clearly a popular fellow with fans here, reading anecdotes seem about how he actually deigned to speak with fans, which suggests he's a good person.
Nevertheless over recent years I've been underwhelmed at the lack of Manly content in the mass media. Not suggesting that's Cuzzo's fault. For all I know maybe you have to pay bribes or something these days, and Penn was too stingy to cough up. Either way I think Manly's media profile could certainly be better.

Print media is just about dead.

Tik Tok, Instagram , Snapchat

That’s where all the action is these days.

Mind you, I wouldn’t know , I have the old school Facebook and that’s it.

I still read newspapers and watch TV news. The only social media outlet I have is Silvertails which is always entertaining and occasionally accurate.

Yes but sadly we are in the minority.

My eldest daughter is the marketing director for RMIT University in Melbourne , she’s had 25 years in advertising/marketing.

She said to me 20 years ago , “ Dad , newspapers are dead , they’ll go from 150 pages at the weekend to about 20 & many will disappear”…. She was 110% accurate.

She also said at the same time “ TV stations will rely on live sport to stay relevant with 90% of people streaming ( I didn’t even know what that meant at the time) their content. Jeez we didn’t even have smart TV’s or phones back then and she was still predicting the future.

Our age group still watch live TV, we do every morning , every night.

My daughters , their husbands , their teenage children would never even think of turning the TV on to watch a show , the TV is only there to display what they stream or download.

And not a chance in hell that they’d ever buy a newspaper.

Print & TV media is dying , TV will manage with live sport , newspapers are yesterdays news largely irrelevant and totally irrelevant to anyone under 50.

It’s , Tik Tok, Instagram, Snapchat

Even Facebook is considered “ old school” these days.

Honestly I believe it’s this change that’s driven their decision making with regards to Wayne.

In our eyes he’s a legend.

Ask any 15 -35 year old who he is and they’ll say “ who “.

The introduction of AI, love it or hate it , adds another dimension.

The world isn’t what it was 20 years ago , in fact it isn’t even what it was 5 years ago.

What a clever daughter you have!

I would argue there is still a slight role for trad media because it's still where a lot of the social media content comes from. They will often link to a 'newspaper' story or television report about the game or a player that I've been completely unaware of and that's how I will come to it.

By all reports Cuzzo is a lovely bloke and doesn't the world need more of those? However I feel he's been outshone recently by the digital team and that's no fault of his. It's just so much easier to watch something first hand than read about it. Way of the world.

I guess the only real reallocated jobs will be media contact and the organising of player and post match pressers.

I do have the most ridiculous amount of faith in the direction of Tony Mestrov though, so if he reckons it's a good idea, I'm on board.

I suspect you've hit the nail on the head.

Would be interesting to know cusso role in an article and the changing nature. Ie in the past phone call, networking with journos. Now the media keyboard warriors just publishes to the clubs website, own release which big media outlets later pick up and run etc.

I miss the days of reading the Sunday papers on a lazy Sunday morning and walking out to get the Manly Daily 6 days a week from the letter box.

Yes Cuzzo will be replaced by a social media/video expert. Not sure if they have someone or are looking for someone.

Don’t expect the same coverage of juniors etc.

What your daughter says is, sadly, true and it is leading to the end of a once noble profession, Journalism. I was a journo for the first 10 years of my working career and loved it. There was an emphasis on seeking the truth. As social media has evolved we are getting more opinions than facts. I was unfortunate to be stuck overseas recently with only a choice of Fox News and CNN. Both are propaganda outlets for diverse sides of US politics. It was frightening really. Both networks push lies to viewers with the same political biases, which fuels misinformation and manipulation.
The old maxim 'seeing is believing' is no longer true. Alas, so too is relying on media to provide factual information.

In a political sense it’s almost impossible to get the truth these days.

Here in Australia the ABC is a propaganda system for the Left & Sky the opposite for the Right.

Once upon a time you could watch both and sort of work it out.

And social media is the same every story is an opinion , not fact.

I think the Australian ones do show bias but from what I've seen, it's nowhere near the propaganda level of their American counterparts. They are scary. They feed on confirmation bias and us against them division.

Im not invested in US politics and have never watched any of their shows but that doesn’t surprise me one little bit.

I’m on Twitter ( X) and the one sided drivel on there prior to Elon buying it , and then suddenly the one sided drivel on there ( the other way ) after he bought it was enough for me.

Some very nice comments on this thread , I know Cuzzo was reading at the start , hopefully he will still be reading.

Let’s hope he lands on his feet -
It always seemed to me he did his best in what was an under resourced department

He’s what I call “ a goer”, those type of people never stay unemployed for long.

He’ll pop up somewhere else in RL circles without a doubt.

Cuzzo is "Goer" all right
The Type all clubs need and our club does not have enough of
Some smart NRL Organisation will pick him up for sure feathered friend

Who put together the "Manly Way" shows because I reckon it's been the best thing to come out of the club in 50 years?
The Manly Way is all about living up to our Legendary clubs Great High Standards and Winning Premierships

and it does not mean a thing if it is not Emulated
