Wayne Cousins ( Media Manager)

With Couso gone as Media Manager, they may well change the role to Social Media Relations Manager, or some other 'wanky' title', and that person will have a 'huge' role to play, with increasing interaction with members and fans, with this site and Social Media for the younger brigade of fans, who flock to social media, as opposed to many 'old farts' like me, who avoid it with a passion.

The main thing the club has to remember is that sponsors don't just want their brand on the front of the jersey, or wherever it may be, sleeves, shorts or wherever, they want 'Free Press' with their brand in front of the 'mass' public, through all media, providing it is positive, to enhance awareness of their brand, and hopefully increase sales of their product.

URM as major sponsor may seem strange, however, the Johnsons have always been significant supporters of Manly and apart from the fact they are fans of the club, I am not aware of any of their competitors actually sponsoring an NRL team, and when they 'pitch' to other councils, that is seen as being socially responsible, and a great benefit in business procurement decisions.

Ideally we have to have a PR person who has us in the media each week, for all the right reasons and on Social media almost daily, so that's a challenge for whomever.

hopefully that doesn't mean we get a 20 year old so called 'self proclaimed influencer or tiktok star' to take care of the socials now.

All good, if he had 9.5 years of service, he would be paid all accrued Long Service Leave and if he had been made redundant, he would have received 16 weeks redundancy per the NES*. He would have had a greater period of notice if he was above 40 years old (I think thats the age). On top of that he would also have been paid all unused Annual Leave etc. So, by my reckoning he was probably paid minimum of 24-25 weeks pay.

Just to add for general info...

*As he would be employed by a business employing 15 or more staff.

That'd be awesome!

Drag a lot of you into the 20th century - then you'll only be one century behind!

Digital team is just a new evolved way of saying IT team.
Much more than the IT Team. Corporate "Digital Teams" have evolved more from the traditional Marketing and Promotions people rather than the IT folks. Today they are a young and very sophisticated go-to-market group critical in most organisations. For the Eagles, their brief might be for example as simple as go double our membership base within the next 3 years. Sounds like a tough objective but with the plethora of multi media platforms available, this objective is very doable. Much needed at Manly.

Yep it’s a big umbrella, but basically if at work ( government agency) if I need need to raise a ticket for anything remotely IT say a new laptop or access to different parts of the system it goes through the “ Digital team” I guess in relation to Manly and sports it’s a direct interface with social media which in a lot of businesses still remains a function of the marketing department.

NO idea. I see on LinkedIn there are still plenty of roles for Media Managers, customer experience managers, etc. I did not see any NRL teams advertising though… ,

Edit I see a role for a media manager at the Storm. (Maybe you could apply)

John Hopoate just rang - says he wants to be the leader of the 'digital team'.

I said, 'thanks for your call - we may or may not get back to you'........
Haha I am not sure experience with finger pointing would be ideal….. maybe Peter Costello could be his reference…..

He thought about it but decided against applying - family in Sydney will need him close by

Thank you for your reply @The Wheel
I never asked him what he would be doing
I could not picture him in anything but Maroon colors the way he was so dedicated and loved our club
For Cuzzo it was all about Loyalty and family and he treated all of us Manly supporters like family.
He was the face and the passionate spirit of our club to us
This why we are loyal to him and will always love him .
Most of the time from Most people
What you give is what you get back

Wayne was good but look at most other teams general media, then look at ours over the last few years. I have no idea what his role was but given he was made redundant, it's likely that you're somewhat right.

Not really sure if you're being critical of the club and it's decision based on your language but yeah, they need to engage the next generation of fans (customers) where they are - social media.

Regarding URM they are not the only waste management business to be involved with an NRL club, off the top of my head Veolia and Remondis are/were both involved in sponsorship capacities at the Cowboys and Sharks. I think URM has expressed interest in purchasing Manly previously, it's probably related to that unless I've got my wires crossed.
