DCE RESPONDS TO CRITICS
Manly skipper Daly Cherry-Evans responded to his critics in the best way possible – by leading his team to their first win of the season.
The 32-year-old has copped the brunt of Manly’s woeful start to the season. He’s the skipper, the halfback and the game’s highest player so with that triple whammy it’s hard for him to escape criticism.
Fox League analyst Michael Ennis even suggested that coach Des Hasler should consider offloading the No.7 to free up cap space.
But Cherry-Evans proved if Manly are going to move forward they need to do it with the Queensland Origin halfback leading them around the park.
Cherry-Evans set up both of Manly’s tries and nailed the matchwinning field goal in the final four seconds.
It should come as no surprise though. Cherry-Evans has kicked a matchwinning field goal now in three of Manly’s last five wins over the Warriors.
It’s those plays in pressure moments that prove Manly need him.
“The out of form half, the down on his luck captain delivers for the Sea Eagles,” Fox League commentator Matt Russell said.
“It just had to be DCE. Their field goal specialist, their captain, their man criticised during the first month of the competition. His side winless and desperate and Daly delivers.”
