Walker thoughts 2022?

I think walker will be integral to our success this year especially against the better teams. He brings that spark off the bench, that unpredictability and he has good speed and strength. Big loss for next season, im sure dessie will have someone lined up.

I cannot see Walker back in the centres unless to cover injury. He cannot defend in the centres to save is life. He doesn't work well with his inside man and honestly a very poor one one one tackler when he is isolated out wide.

Just because he has speed doesn't mean he is a great centre. if you have a look at the best centres in the game - Joseph Manu, Kotoni Staggs, Justin Olam. None of these have blinding speed, but there are very well rounded players. Just as good in defence as attack.

For all the naysayers that thought Walker was not injured for first round.

From training today.

He has lots of strapping that gives the impression that he may not be fit for this week's match against the Roosters

Admittedly it was Walker's first proper game since announcing his departure, but having said "I am determined to ensure that my final season at Manly is a great and successful one", I thought he was a shining light and brought plenty of energy when he came on last night. It doesn't seem to have affected his form at this early stage of his last season and he was one of our better players yesterday.

^ Yeah, he ran hard and straightened up the attack almost immediately. I've been fairly indifferent towards Walker throughout his Manly career but he's proving himself to be one of our better players in his new utility role. Wish the rest of them played with as much heart as he did yesterday.

I believe he is trying hard. Certainly putting in the effort, but it is all one-off and disruptive to the team plan.

If Des can get him back on line he/we should have a good year. Otherwise, he will score some tries during the year but in a losing team.

Will be a big loss in my opinion. Watson and himself are probably the two best utility players in the comp. Will add another dimension to the warriors

It does make you wonder what the market value for a good substitute or roving forward is in the modern game.

Apart from Dylan we don't otherwise have speed from our forwards.

I haven't heard any news but he looked pretty crook yesterday with his knee all banged up.

If Dylan can't make it for the Knights game the team selection will get quite interesting. Maybe Parker returns and Koula might take Walker's bench spot as he did in round 1. Alternatively Bullemor gets another go. Or Tuipulotu even?
Funny, after a couple of wins all the options seem to have something to commend them.

My concern is that he's injured and didn't last long. Do we tell him to take time off to fix himself. Don't think he's going to be a big miss long term once the forward regain some belief and move forward. The forwards need to be deeper running onto the ball, I think they are way to flat in attack.

Think our biggest decision Des won't make is around centre. Koula played well, did in the trials as well. Done nothing wrong and a lot right. Got to be in front of Harper. Some say Harper yesterday had a great game but really was it good enough to save his position. Given Parker most likely back and given same circumstances yesterday he would have done same or better than Harper.

The thing I also don't get is that we bring on Lawton for 5 mins then Croker goes back to dummy half when we could rotate the forwards with big guys seems redundant?

I don't know what to do with walker .. yes he goes well when he comes on ..BUT

BUT .. I much prefer the way our team plays with Jake staying at lock and with 2 genuine boofhead props contesting the middle ..

This faster light weight game is a myth .. a MYTH I tells ya

5 day turnaround probably too hard even for a bad cork.
In the presser, Des said Turbo has a bad cork, so we may see Koula at fullback on Thursday night. If Walker is also out, Lawton could possibly play 14 with Schuster 15 (if fit).

Edit: I misheard Des in the presser - he said Turbo will be okay, but Walker has a cork

I hope Walker recovers ASAP as he's been good in his new role...but probably also vindicates the decision to let him Walk at the end of the year. The dude cant stay on the field.
This is exactly what I said during the game commentary yesterday. For all his glimpses of brilliance, he has been dogged by problems that keep him off the field. I'm not sorry to see him move on and wish him well. I'd rather some durability and reliability.
