Walker critics be gone

Snake's Alive!
We need to be careful discussing Walker's contract due his role on the bench...he is not a genuine bench player...he comes at the 20 minute mark and plays the rest of the match. We just give him the first 20 minutes off to avoid tiring him out in the early bash and barge so he can be more explosive when he does come on. He is playing big minutes in the middle...more than Taupau who is on double what Walker will be paid...it's the not the disproportionate amount it may seem to be for a 'utility'. He is worth 450k on what he delivered this season when you consider Suli just signed at Saints for 1.7 over 3 years.

Suli can be a real asset when he is on his game but think that his Dragon"s contact value is way overs on present indications . Just a humble estimate but 350 - 400 max if he was still with Manly and playing well . Same with Walker and especially in his current role . Marty is extremely fortunate to be on his back ended 850 or so k on present form , less then half that amount if a realistic perspective [ sorry Bozo ] was being applied

It's only a game ....
I am a huge fan of Walker's new role but if Harper does start the year the way he finished it, I wouldn't be vehemently opposed to seeing Dylan move back to centre with Lawton the only small carry on the bench.
Yes, currently we have 5 quality props to rotate (plus Boyle & maybe De Luis). Bench backrow options will include Bullemor, Davey & later on Burbo. If Walker reurns to the centres, Lawton & Cust could be No. 14 options.

Actually it might be #nextmonth as I think most of the office staff are now on a months leave.

I think we got the big flurry of information just before they left.

Until then we’ll be in the dark, unless Dylan himself announces it.

We have more playmakers than any other team in the spine plus Schuster and perhaps Jake. Faster than lightning strike power out wide. Decent, fit and mobile forwards. The missing ingredient is a Damien (did you know he was a beach sprinter?) Cook to sprint through the middle at tiring forwards in these six again times.

We have that in Dylan !!!

The guy is outstanding. He gives so much time and space to our halves they are able to throw passes in broken play to Tommy or Saab or whoever. Don't underestimate what Dylan creates.

You beat me to it @Snake.
He plays around 55-60 minutes a match whereas the props average about 40-45.
Only Jake, Schu and Guac play the full 80 in the forwards, even Croker has been getting a spell in the back end of the season.
Yes, our season really lifted when Turbo returned, to some extent it shifted again once Des played the Walker card, yes there was some mixed results but overall I think it was a successful one.
To me, that's a specialist role going forward - he has his defined role but can also cover 1-6 competently ( okay, fullback not so much).

Other clubs had quality players in similar roles - Benji, Hynes, May, Nikorima.- another 6 or 7 playing in the middle effectively.
I wouldn't be surprised if the Sharks use Moylan like that next year too.

It would seem that the #14 isn't a just in case utility anymore and the contract $$ will reflect that.

Great point concerning his ability to cover the backs too. We were lucky that injuries were kind to us this season but if Foz or DCE went down in a game or one of our centres, we had Walker to come on and fill in admirably.

I find it amusing when fans put crap on players wanting to get the best financial deal for themselves. Like they wouldn't do the same thing if a competitor offered them a better salary for doing the same job.
Understand that, but we've also given this guy multiple lifelines. Des and the board has stuck by him through few court cases and stuff. But most NRL players don't really get loyalty which is sad. I'd only keep him if he's happy to play that same 14 role as he did this year.

If the deal we offer him is not too far off, then I agree. But if another club offers him 100k plus more over three seasons, I can understand why he might leave.

Manly are fast running out of patience with Dylan Walker as they wait to hear whether the former NSW and Australian star will accept a two-year contract extension from the club.

The Sea Eagles tabled a new offer to Walker some weeks ago but his management has been scouring the NRL, hoping to score a better deal.

The Wests Tigers are believed to be among the clubs that have been sounded out given they have money to spend for next year and coach Michael Maguire knows the 27-year-old as well as anyone, having coached Walker when the par were both at South Sydney.

It is understood the Tigers were willing to consider Walker as a centre but the player himself has enjoyed life in the middle of the field and believes that is where his future lays.

The clock is ticking. Manly won’t wait around forever.

Perspective time ...

How much more are the Tigers going to offer him ?

The Tigers who have said that they will no longer pay overs for players

How much more ?

Take away the Tax

Take away the Great Northern beaches pizzerias

Take away the Great Manly culture Under Des the players second father

Compare that with the Stressful and under pressure Maguire who will make Dylan a leader of the losing tigers pack and accountable for every loss they have
Talk about Pressure
He will be coming home after every disappointing loss kicking his pet dog .

The moral of the story ...
The extra bit of Money is only good when it is better value

I hope Dylan stays as he is one of my favourite sons

So much for loyalty eh Bozo. When a club, a coach puts their neck on the line for a player when he stuffs up and it apparently still isnt good enough for a player to return the loyalty to the club, coach that stood by him.. I was going to put stood by their man, but I was worried that all you tails out there would break out into song...:giggle::giggle::giggle::giggle:

Ditto

I wonder if the Telegraph story has been written by Rothfield? If so, it should be taken with a grain of salt.

The Tigers have just signed Peachey. I wonder if they would be chasing a similar type utility player?

Indeed, it's fair to say he should be thankful Manly stood by him, and I've no doubt he is grateful and also seems happy in the place. On the other hand we don't know how low a contract the club has offered him... may just be a case of the club trying to squeeze a bit more out of the 'grateful' angle than Walker thinks reasonable. I'll be surprised if they can't reach an agreement soon.

Don’t hassle him about contracts while he is playing on his ps4!

Just sayin’
