A lot to look forward to tonight:

  • Weekes at fullback
  • Schuster at 6
  • Jake in the front row
  • Tuilagi's first game
  • Young guys like Gordie, Fifita, Fainu & Fulton playing with first graders

Not fussed about the result but if the blokes above put in solid performances and the combinations look good then I'll be happy. And of course praying for no injuries

And ...

Young livewire Toby at #14
Has Bullemore "really" turned the corner?
Can Cooper Johns run the show?

Also whether Bulemor will be used as a 13 again and Johns showing he can just as capably play as a 7 Fifita looks like a prop option and after last week , a good rating . Fainu backrow and no doubt keen to put in another good effort , same with Burbo . Strong starting pack for Manly , hope they can really take it to the Roosters pack and set a good platform early . Will have to keep the Cheese in good check . Bit more then a trial this one

Agree Al, good opportunity for guys like Bullemore to shake of the fringe 1st grader tag. Our forwards look very strong and with a good extended bench also. Should be a good match up with the Roosters forwards. Really looking forward to the forward exchanges.

This is a game with many top grade players, so will give a great insight to the new systems and structures the new coaches have installed over the summer and though excited to see if the attack will flow smoothly, really keen to see the defensive line and hoping more speed and numbers to control and slow that ruck.....which has been terrible recently.
This will be a yardstick for our youngster to fight for a Top 17 off the bench so expect young Fifita, Fainu and Fulton in particular, to make their presence felt tonight.

Yeah , defence is a must to improve if the side can be truly competitive this season . Were able to be solid enough defensively in patches last season but just could not seem to keep the intensity up . Could well have been a fitness or endurance issue , Players in last weeks trial at least seemed O K in the endurance department if that comeback was any indication . Still a bit of tightening in the middle required , if it can be managed tonight , looking good for the season then .Gordie and Johns sure to be under the pump a bit but with the right application and support , every chance to be up to standard .

Another point of interest will be Jake as prop & captain. This will be a wonderful introduction & test for Gordon playing in a near full strength NRL team for the first time. As they say in the classics, the game will be won or lost up front - Jake, Gordon & Paseka (+ Fifita) v. Lodge, Smith & Collins. We have powerful forwards & bench rotation, but the Roosters have Smith & Radley + a very effective spine.

(Just noticed that De Luis & Smalley both played for the Roosters in last week's trial v. Storm)

Seibold just on 2mmm said that DCE, Tom & croker will all play round 1. Just giving other players the opportunity to play key positions. In case of injury during the season.
Dce is getting old and needs to be managed so smart move. Tom… well he needs to play just what he needs to. I’ll be pissed if he plays origin and gets injured outside of club duties. Croker gets beaten up playing hooker. He needs only to play when he has to as well. All in all sound move.
