Upgrade Barrett now!!!

Corporate governance off the field to consistent performance on the field is needed.

Barrett will not win a grand final. History is clear as all coaches who have won a grand final were a past player fron Ron Willey; Stanton; Fulton to Hasler then Toovey came very close. Bring back hasler or sign Ivan Cleary.

Manly must be governed by a meticulous process via corporate governance to instilling a vast succession program of players that will create a dynasty & ensure Manly remain in the glory days instead of being 14th on the nrl ladder.
It’s a sad indictment on the current setup that not one of the 200+ game players from the recent past, with the exception of Menzies, is officially involved in any way.

They could be drawing on the talents and motivations of people like King, Ballin, Kite and B. Stewart. They are not doing that though and now we look (and increasingly feel) like one of those broken down, deadbeat clubs like Faecalmatta or the Titians.

Fu&K me, I'm pretty sure Baz isn't teaching them to knock it on or kick the ball dead. Players are the ones not executing on the field. Simple game, run hard, tackle hard, hold the ball. Plus we lack a decent organiser.
I agree feathered friend . We do lack as decent organizer so we put our no1 "running " centre at 5/8 .
Walker is a gun runner he is not an organizer . The result , we weaken on position to stuff up another .
Walker played 5/8 in 2016 and our team failed to have cohesion and you think a proactive coach would learn from this

Manly coach Trent Barrett admitted his star recruit had wilted under the pressure of playing in the halves over the opening 11 rounds and is hoping a move back to the centres will kickstart Walker's season.
"At the end of the day, we found out Dylan's best position isn't five-eighth," Cherry-Evans said.
"He's quite pleased to be playing centre this year and that's going to be really beneficial to the side.
"He's just a natural football player and he just needs the ball in his hands. With his obvious strengths his speed and ability to break tackles, the more he gets the ball in his hands the more opportunities he will create for the side to score points. It brings a steady and reliable right-edge player to this side."

When will we ever learn ? when will we ever learn !

I think its highly unlikely that we would get Cleary and we MUST not go back to Hasler!! What Manly needs is continuity and we need to look at options like Wayne Lamkin who achieved miracles as a coach with our Holden Cup team last year, some of that team will be first graders soon and If Barrett leaves or is dismissed, he could be an option. All this talk about the coach is not helping our current cause. There needs to be a focus of hard work on the paddock from coaches and players to lift the team out of its slump.

All this talk of DCE goal kicking. He doesn’t appear to be a natural kicker, at all...looks very uncomfortable. If we sign Hoddo, goal kicking duties are instantly his. Not interested in DCE’s percentage this year...shank or no shank. Cherry ain’t no goal kicker.
Taking over as the primary goal kicker for the very first time at age 29 is a tall order. I know you don't want to look at stats, but they are the best measure of how well a player kicks, natural looking or not. At 82% so far he's exceeded my expectations. He'll only get better and more comfortable as the season progresses. If Hodko were signed he would certainly provide DCE with much needed support in all aspects of his game.

I'll have serious crack at this.

Repeat sets mostly come from short kicks between defenders into the ingoal area from 5-10m out. The defenders are close to the attacking line and the kicker and have very little reaction time. It is much harder from 15-20m out as the defenders are more spread and further from the attacking line and kicker. Easier to defend from here and it takes a much more precise kick amd execution.

Last year our 5th tackle position was in that 5-10m area a LOT and reaped the benefit with lots of repeat sets. This year our 5th tackles are mostly in the 15-30m area. Even Blake Green would have trouble getting a LOT of repeat sets from 5th tackle kicks from the field position we are starting our last tackle from. A high kick is the option from this field position and they don't get a LOT of repeat sets.

Our big problem is we are either not making enough ground with tackles 1-4 OR we are starting our sets from too far back in our own territory.and we are not giving ourselves quality last tackle opportunities.
Not disputing your assessment, but I did notice we were metres from the line against the Roosters, we fling it to DCE who is set upon almost immediately. If he had Green on the other side of the ruck, he easily rolls it in for another set. I know it's been mentioned countless times already, but it's imperative that we have a second kicker. Api would be my pick. Never too late to try, cause this single kicker ain't working.

Clive Churchill couldn't coach the rubbish roster to get anywhere near the GF.

I get the feeling we have too many players earning too much money, too many on base money up to $200 and not enough sitting in the $200k to $350k.

Our only problem is we are down on a half, havn't had 2 all year.
Take pressure off Dce, he plays well, when he is playing well ,so is the team. When the team is playing well and with confidence, the stupid penalties and errors disappear.
Blame Mgmt for not having us 2 quality halves ready for round1. The more I read ,I don' think that was the coaches fault at all ,but more to do with upper mgmt.Thats where I'm pointing my finger.

U don’t think a strategy to win a game is important ?

U don’t believe a kicking game is important ?

Baz is this u ?

Oh a kicking game is important .... it is just that only an idiot would think we wouldn't rehearse 5th tackle plays .....

Are you seriously that stupid that you think if you rehearse something then it will magically occur during a game?? Are you seriously suggesting DCE is unaware of the value of repeated sets???

PSS ... when attacking // scoring a try is option one ..... getting a repeat set is the 2nd place booby prize ...

I wonder how many repeat sets Green got us last year? Geez we miss him

Exactly .... current status has **** all to do with Baz and DCE not knowing the value of repeat sets .... that is just a childish stupidity ..

Nah he’s got it in one. I hate negative threads and the op is obviously a window licker but after the forwards ran for ten million metres our fifth tackle options were, how you say ... sh!thouse.

Go back in time and watch 2011 backline plays and it’s genuinely exciting to watch. This lot is a rabble. Obviously need time to click and not have an injury every game. There I’ve said it.

Ricardo, in 2011 we had a complete International backline with at least 5 players that have become Sea Eagle legends ... to compare them to a 2018 backline containing a one game rookie 5/8. a 20 game and a 9 game rookie centre and a utility back/winger and a newcastle reject is a bit ambitious ....

And to then suggest that because we are not undefeated Barrett can't coach is nonsense of a very high standard ... and wait for it ..... because he hasn't taught them the value of repeat sets ...

FMD .... no use locking the gate .... they are already out .....

Probably the best comment in this thread to date, and the REAL reason we aren’t do very well.

I’ll admit Barrett is no genius but to label him as THE REASON we are where we are is bordering on laughable.

Our roster is poor by comparison to nearly every other side.

I think this is more due to our office / recruitment being an absolute mess from about 2014 on and the club desperate to get/keep some decent players paying too much and then being stuck with the cap into buying average players like Brown, Winterstein, Perrett, Jono Wright who lets face it wouldn’t make FG in probably 14 of the 16 sides.

We were, and still are , a very unappealing club to come to.

Oh sure beautiful place to live ( if you can afford it) but other than that very very little to offer other than a “ start”.

This is the core of our real problem, one Barrett has inherited NOT created!!

If Toovey had this footy team we wouldn’t be 2 wins from 9 games

It’s clear we got some supporters that are hypnotised by Barrett’s media spin

And won’t call a spade a spade

He’s had the team for 3 years

What’s the excuse

Look at Penrith $4 million out of the cap where Are they sitting

Your all brainwashed this is a business not a charity
You’re clearly hypnotized by the idea that anyone that played for manly must be a good coach. What evidence is there that toovey would not be 2:9? What’s he done that suggests he’s some sort of super coach? Clearly every other nrl team that had a vacancy has passed on him since manly because he’s interviewed for pretty much all of them. So are you saying you’re a better judge of coaching talent than everyone else?

He just played des’s system the whole time he coached never innovated to suit the players he had or the changing game style. He even admitted it in an interview on 360 recently. He’s done nothing to suggest that he’s some coaching mastermind. Meanwhile the word from every decent judge of footy talent is that Barrett knows what he’s doing and what he’s talking about. He just doesn’t have the cattle right now.

Agree, and let's not forget draino clusterf^ck Myles sucking up a nice chunk as well. Very hard to put together a good squad with a lot of the dead wood floating around. + $330k disadvantage from salary cap.

@Woodsie we should also run hard and put the ball on the ground over the tryline more than the other team. Why aren’t we practicing this at training!!

Clearly Barrett can’t coach and doesn’t understand nrl!

**** ... you're on to something ..... the first coach to come up with that game plan will be a genius.

... and to practise it at training ..... fuken me .... who would have figured .....

We should also practise turning up. I've heard that teams that turn up ready to play win the game.

Is there no end to Silvertails genius ...... Baz could go to every players home in turn ..... drive to next games venue with them and show them how to turn up .... brilliant!!!

Concede that there has been a few poor recruiting choices in recent seasons but i think that last week illustrated that there is still more then enough individual playing ability and quality to make our present or main playing rooster more then comparable with most other N R L squads . The Manly forwards had the better of the quite well rated Rooster"s pack , backs went O K with the exception of Tom T still being out of form and the limited ability of Matt Wright. So still essentially the same squad that were easily a top eight side last season . This season for Manly has been mainly highlighted with the unhelpful injury toll , too many key players under performing at the one time in some matches and the lack of presence of an established 5 / 8 [ hardly Barrett:s fault] . .For sure the side has generally played below potential and expectations this season and with the annoying tendency of poor ball control and lack of discipline but this is not really an indication or reflection of a below par playing squad or rooster , just a requirement for All concerned including Baz to somehow find improvement and more consistency .
