Despite being a Queenslander Choppy is firmly a Manly man.

I heard him interviewed at a Men of League lunch in Brisbane two years ago.

When asked what the best thing he did in football ( and I expected him to say play for Queensland first given the crowd) he said the decision to play with the Manly Sea Eagles was his best ever decision and he loved the years there but he was proudest when he played for Australia and Queensland.

I guess a bit both ways there but he certainly gushed over his time in Maroon and White although lamented at never having won a Premiership ( he played both the 82/83 GF’s v Parramatta).

I’d forgotten but his last year at Manly was 1987 and he played only in the reserve grade team ( which lost in their GF).

He actually spoke better than I thought he would but of course he was being interviewed about his life passion.
