Can I ask your view of what happened with Adam Goodes? I'll hazard a guess you think he was booed for being a bad sport and he brought it all on himself?

For the record I didn't like what happened with Goodes one bit, a different situation as well.

I guess I'm going to be classed as racist for replying to generalisation of the booing not thinking it is racially motivated in the case of Lattrell

No need to be too defensive about it in my opinion, I am pretty racist myself and I would be surprised to meet anyone brought up white in this country who isn't! Having said that for most of my life I've tried to be aware of racism as its not always obvious, and tried to be aware of who is benefitting from it and who is suffering for it. I still have moments quite regularly when I realise there is some racist assumption or unconscious judgment underpinning one of my attitudes. I don't think any of us should be thinking Am I racist or I'm not racist, rather we should be open to thinking about whether racism is a factor in various situations, especially those where it's been suggested as possibly true.

The Lattrell situation certainly raises the question, it's one that deserves some thought and honest discussion.

Why is it that it seems to be (in modern times) that it is mainly first nation players that are boo'd?

The media love to push that angle when it happens

But really Smitler was booed relentlessly when he was playing, noone made a big deal about it

How many people has Mitchell tried to decapitate or maim over the past three years and got away with let alone the ones he copped suspensions for like Manu

At the end of the day he is a superstar and he is also a grub. He isn't the only one either but if you bring that many eyes on screen you are going to get noticed when you take someones head off.

So he is always going to get attention and especially when he leans into it by talking himself up, almost as a defensive mechanism. He also seems emotional so if fans perceive you as a grub and think they can get under your skin you are going to cop it. I don't know how many times people gave it to Ennis at Brookvale.

Anyway if Latrell wants to be less antagonistic towards fans and less grubby, he could do it, and he'd get booed less if that's what he wanted. If he keeps leaning into it like he has been doing, he'll keep getting booed, because people love a pantomime villain

edit do you watch FBI? amazing coincidence, just watched a recorded episode from last week, the same phrase was used re everyone white has some underlying racism.

I'm simple (haha yeah I admit it) I like to keep it that way. There may well be an element of the crowd that has racial undertones, there always will be a minority, but majority are not booing his colour they are booing his actions from my perspective.

I have a similar take on it...
Look at Cody... he is also indig, also won't sing anthem, also pretty talented, also a bit dirty and has a reputation for being a sook - but he does not cop it like Trell Milk... I think there is a fair bit of 'leading with your chin' involved in the response that Trell Milk is generating from crowds...

As a kid, I boo'd every one in an opposition guernsey and the refs. Does lolly legs count? I even made fun of Wayne Pearce as a teenager selling orange cordial drinks at Leichhardt Oval, "refreshing drinks 20 cents". Who had the last laugh? Me booing or the players earning plenty even when they don't perform. I'm no racist, don't care what colour the guernsey is of the opposition.
