Peter Peters is actually correct on his remarks regarding Turbo. The club's paying him too much money to be warming the side line benches year after year. The club hasn't had any money in the salary cup for years due to exhorbit cash the club's paying DCE, Turbo and Jake.
The club can't afford to be having this every season. 😔
Mate I agree with your last line, that is a given..... but as for the rest, Many other clubs can have 3 + rep players and prosper..... but not us

I can understand when Peters is coming from but if the surgery fails I see him moving to the centres and his next contract taking up nowhere as much of the salary cap

Manly should make the “business decision” to release Tom Trbojevic if his mercy dash to the US to fix repeated hamstring injuries fails.
That’s the stunning claim from premiership-winning former Sea Eagle Peter Peters after Trbojevic flew out to Philadelphia on Saturday to work with renowned injury rehabilitation specialist Bill Knowles.
Peters fears Trbojevic could be forced into early retirement if he is unable to overcome his injury history, and also believes Manly should hide him in the centres in their NRL season opener against Canterbury to protect the superstar fullback.
Since making his NRL debut in Round 5 in 2015, Trbojevic has played 121 games for the Sea Eagles. However, he’s managed to play 20-plus games in just three of his eight seasons in the top grade.
With Trbojevic, brother Jake and captain Daly Cherry-Evans taking up a quarter of Manly’s total salary cap, Peters said the Sea Eagles potentially had a big decision to make on the 2021 Dally M Medallist.

Asked by Canterbury’s Josh Reynolds on the Big Sports Breakfast Weekend on Sunday whether Manly should consider releasing Trbojevic to a rival club due to his hamstring issues, Peters was unequivocal.
“Yes, if it continues,” Peters said.
“I think it’s a business decision. He may have to take an early retirement if it keeps going.
“He’s played (121) games and he made his debut back in 2015. It’s just not enough games.
“He’s a superstar but it’s like having a Lamborghini full of petrol in the garage, but you can’t drive it because, mechanically, it’s not sound.

“It’s a huge make-or-break for Turbo’s career in the NRL. He’s 26, he’s got so many good years in front of him, if he’s fit.”
Trbojevic will become the third NRL star to seek the help of Knowles, who got South Sydney fullback Latrell Mitchell back on the field last year, and is currently working with the Melbourne Storm’s Ryan Papenhuyzen on his knee as he continues his recovery from a shocking patella fracture.
Trbojevic injured his hamstring in pre-season training prior to Christmas, but is expected to be fit to start the season.
Peters believes playing Trbojevic at fullback and forcing him to cover extra ground to deal with Bulldogs five-eighth Matt Burton’s kicking game is an unnecessary risk to take for Round 1.

“Certainly for game one in 2023 if he’s right, and all indications are that he will be, against the Bulldogs at 4 Pines Park. The towering bombs from Matt Burton are exactly what they don’t need to be under first-up,” Peters said.
“I would be playing Kaeo Weekes or Reuben Garrick in the fullback spot.
“Turbo doesn’t need the first-up test that Burton would bring.”
“Weekes, in the final game of 2022, in pouring rain against the Bulldogs, fielded every high kick except one from Matt Burton.
“It was a great exhibition of fullback play. I’d play the kid and put Tommy in the centres.”
Ah Peter Peters, the Molly Meldrum of Rugba League

That's true regarding other clubs having 3 big contract players but when's enough, enough at Manly? The club's been going through this for ages and it's not getting us anywhere besides those good years of 2021, 2019 and 2017. I just feel the way the teams been structured over the last couple of years it's just not working and time to move on paying massive contracts to 3 players.

But even if he is, why would you say it now when he's just flown out in an effort to fix the prob? The bloke is already feeling cra^py about the situation, I'm sure. It just seems a bit of self indulgent BS. Let the bloke focus on the positives of wanting to play footy for us and worry about the ifs and maybes if things go belly up later.
I know but the truth is with his injury history it's bound to happen again. If not the hamstrings, maybe the pec, shoulder or god forbid the ACL. I'm just talking from what we know from his past history with injuries. I just hope the club has a plan b instead of trying plan A over and over again.

Fair enough. Lets hope the bloke gets some good luck for a change.

Really just needs complete encouragement and goodwill [ Turbo ] If things do not work out , maybe over time then , understandable for some conjecture . Zorba no doubt gets the right calls on some things but not in this instance

The timing of this story peeves me. Turbo's barely left the country, let alone started the sessions with Knowles, and the media are already putting a headline-grabbing and negative spin on him and Manly. I know Zorba was asked the question but he could've been not so blunt and a bit more diplomatic with his answer.

Maybe if the sessions aren't successful, then sure, those questions are justified but at least wait till he's had a few sessions to determine their non-effectiveness or benefit.

Maybe Scotty has put him up to it. Yeah release him to another club and watch him come back to haunt us, no thanks. And if we release him, we still have to pay the freight on him
Yeah that is what worries me. Release the captain but Tom. How many teams have geniune marquee players in comp ? And he is one.
I hope your not right but Penn has form.

Thanks for posting @DUFFMAN

I hope it does not come to this and Tommy comes good and there is a very good chance that he will come good like most players do .

But if he does not come good then a Bold business decision has to be made and bold business decisions are not made by the faint hearted . Tough business decisions are made by strong people

The reality is that if Tom keeps breaking up then it is logical and good business sense that his million dollar contract would have to be reviewed

Chronically breaking up also has long term effects on the quality of life and this is why players also medically retire

I do not believe Playing in another position will prevent any Chronic issue from flaring up again

Good Luck Tommy . You deserve it !

Why is he referred to as Zorba? Wanka, Fu<kwit, Fat <unt, Idiot make more sense? Is it because he takes it up the ar$e? Bleeds Moron not Maroon & White! Pi$$ off & leave Manly alone....you're a legend in your own mind not Manly's! I better stop!
