Tommy T Injured - usa bound

I wonder if Kayo Weeks has added any muscle this off season, looks like we are going to need him.

Yeah, but Gutherson was - because he signed a contract in 2015 at the same time as Turbo, in the full knowledge that Turbo was ostensibly the first pick for fullback.

IIRC, Gutho also signed knowing that then coach Geoff Toovey had him earmarked as the 5/8 replacement for Foran who was ironically off to the Worms. Until Tooves got the boot and Brainiac Barrett told Gutho he was free to leave since there was no place in his first grade for him.

The difference between making the semi's ... or missing out will get down to points differential.

Having Tom fit for just 10 games a season vastly increases our chances ...

Having him fit at finals time ... exponentially increases our chances of a premiership ...

No one has a crystal ball ... but I wouldn't be getting rid of the best player in the world just yet ...

Since the beginning of 2019, Turbo has played 44 out of a possible 92 games for Manly (Origin duty not considered). We made the Semi's and the Prelim Final in the two years he played 10 or more games (12 games in 2019, 18 in 2021). In the two years he only played 7 games each year we finished 13th (2020) and 11th (2022).

Hate to say it but our results really do seem to depend on Tom's fitness and form.

Imagine if we actually had him fit and firing for a full season.....

As a fan, this is my biggest concern when Tommy is in the team. Every time he runs, every tackle he makes, you're holding your breath hoping he's not going to get hurt. Every game you're thinking ahead, wondering about a re-shuffle - who's going to go to fullback if Tommy doesn't make it through the game, who do we have on the bench to cover that player, etc. And then it's, "How many week will he be out for this time?"

It must play on his mind when he's on the field as well, wondering what new and exotic way his body will give out on him, or whether he'll simply re-injure his shoulder/pec/hammy.

Sure, there's a chance he'll break the injury cycle and that his best days are still ahead of him. But there's also every chance he won't. We just have to live with the uncertainty and hope for the best.

He's either going to get and stay healthy and go down as one of our greatest ever players ... or he is going to be known for an almost wasted career where everyone knew he was better than anyone else out there, but he was continually injured and we only got to see glimpses of his brilliance.

Yes, he ain’t Latrell, but you’d have to think this is the last roll of the dice for Tommys hammies. Souths got out of trells treatment cheap, but that was because a sponsor dropped $45k in the hat. Even at full cost ($57k), surely that’s worth the risk. I know there’s no guarantees, but I reckon Penn should do it. If Max Delmage was still at Manly, Tommy would already be in the US.

Pretty sure that Gutho played some matches for the Eels at 5 / 8 in his early games there but type of player who can really play or is capable of playing at a good level in any backline position [ which he has ] bar half back . Naturally in his interests to concentrate or prefer a full back role and on full back 's money and especially when he has the overall class to basically warrant it . Again a real shame that Manly had two very good juniors emerging as future top line full backs [ with Turbo ] at virtually the same time which makes some difficult retention situations almost inevitable .

Certainly hope of course for Turbo to be ready to go for the start of next season but if he is not available for whatever reason [ and again ideally for very limited cases ] would still be a bit concerned with Garrick 's last line of defence .Although his attack and improved positioning at the back has certainly and gradually come on better in recent times Did not see a lot of Koula in the World cup as a one, apparently went O K but Manly 's best strike weapon as a centre and quite reliable defence , so surely better suited at centre . Weekes really should be given a go there in the trials , seems to have that ability to sniff out a break , good back up ability with his natural speed . Safe under the high ball and last line of defence , maybe still to determined at a higher level but again surely has to be given a decent go there sooner rather then latter or any back line position for the matter . And for the Manly hierarchy to extend his current contract into the future . Some other good juniors coming on like Latu Fainu and Fletcher - Myers but Weekes has already shown what he is capable of and most likely should only improve more with the right opportunities at Manly

I’ve seen weekes a fair few times in the junior games. He is better than koula at fullback. Mostly those high quality manly junior teams had weekes at 1 and koula at centre.

Koula’s World Cup fullback experience was mostly against reserve grade quality sides to be fair.

I don’t think it’s even a risk spending that amount on a treatment for a $1,000,000 player. A regular player on $250,000 maybe not but we are talking a star player here.

I’m sure uncle Nick wouldn’t even blink at spending that on Teddy, Souths seem to have got a good return on their investment on the treatment.

I’m not Turbo but if it was me I would hit the club up about it, I would even offer to cover half to back my future.
Everything goes well he would pick up the cost in his next contract, stay on the field will increase his contract value.

The question though is whether the Knowles treament is any more likely to help him than what he was already doing.
Had Tom slacked off slightly in following the strict routines that worked for him in 2021?
If not, if he has still been following them to the letter, and got hurt anyway ... then yes that could be an argument for trying something different.

So after all these coaches Manly has had and Turbo clearly not playing much games under these coaches the club needs to seriously consider moving him to the centres or trying to reduce his pay since this has been happening for 5 years now and it's not value for money. Turbo is a great player but it's looking very luckily we have our version of Tim Moltzen.

Well, after you posted the following pathetic piece of crap ... you should be ecstatic ..

quote Damion 2812 ... "I sure will be death riding Spoonbold, same as I did Zoolander just to prove the point that Penny shouldn't be in charge of any sporting organisation especially Manly.'

Im assuming the focus has been on his shoulder rehab so maybe the hammy took a bit of a back seat. He should be able to walk and chew gum at the same time (hopefully without hurting himself) but the shoulder might have been the priority. And of course I have no idea and its pure speculation.

To the tune of Hall & Oates’ ‘Back Together Again’:
Turbo’s injured again, Turbo’s injured again, Singing the same old story,
The old injuries never end,
Gives you reason to abuse him….
I would rather the Tommy tune of

" What ever does not Kill you makes you stronger"

by the sexy Kelly Clarkson

Sure am estatic since we have a new coach and the same old problem. I wouldn't be surprised if Manly again don't make the 8 with the club deciding to waste more money on our coaching staff for the same results.

Thought that Turbo has already had spent some considerable time with some injury treatment specialist in Melbourne which apparently went quite well . Then that referred to match and training preparation stretching routine which also seemed to be improving matters . The run down the Corso without any preparation of course and again since then , no noted hammy issues until this current setback . Not sure going to the U S for any additional treatment would offer any more benefit then he has already received . Probably just has to stick religiously to that pre game - training stretching routine and again not sure if anything else [ including any more specialist visits ] will necessarily improve matters for him .Is ironic that there are 3 quite capable players in Garrick , Weekes and Koula who could all offer something worthwhile at the back but Turbo and like Snake previously , are really indispensable at their best to get maximum team results
Manly just a couple of weeks ago parted ways with the high performance specialist that's specific job was to manage his hamstrings. The one would got him through 2021 without a recurrence and helped Tom stay on the field and take out the daly M. Strange we would move him on?
