CANBERRA has sacked its erratic halfback Todd Carney. The Raiders held a board meeting this morning where the decision was made.

Carney has been involved in a string of ugly off-field dramas.

"The board decided they had had enough," Canberra chief executive Don Furner said today.

In a short statement, Furner said a final decision had only been made today after Carney and his manager David Riolo had met with the board.

"The board met and discussed Todd with his manager and Todd was granted his request to put his case to the board," Furner said.

"Regrettably they (the board) chose to terminate his contract."

THE Canberra Raiders NRL club has sacked halfback Todd Carney.

Club chief executive Don Furner said the board had deliberated this morning following a series of off-field behavioural issues with the representative halfback.

"The board decided they had had enough," Furner told reporters.

He wasn't happy in the first place about Neil Henry linking up with the Cowgirls for next year. But still he has brought this on him self i am wondering now how long it will take for a ESL club to make him a big offer.

If Gallop allows him to sign with another NRL club expect the dogs to make a big play for him. 

After all he would fit in well with Matua, Roberts and Te-mari at northies.

I think he'd be great for us.  Put him on a short leash, set him up on the beaches, make him happy and there you go, a great half for years to come.

I think the NRL not letting him play next year would be wrong, but the kid needs some direction and not letting him earn a living doing what he loves is not the way to go about teaching him anything.  (I’d also think it’s a restriction of trade)

In saying that he needs to be accountable for his actions, as do Canberra if they signed him under the premise that Neil Henry would be coaching Canberra next year.

We hear about player loyalty all the time but signing players under false pretences should be outlawed, and I think contracts signed under that kind of pretence should be rendered void.

Can't happen that way m-s, too easy to come up with reasoning for breaking them

For example Player A could sign with a club under the pretence that Player B will be with the side, but then Player B moves on, it is the same scenario. basically it would be a waste of time having contracts

I still think we should sign him.  The NRL can't stop him signing with another club as he was sacked.  The NRL can't refuse to recognize a new contract.  He didn't tear up a deal like his current coach has.  If he resigned in the expectation that Henry would be the coach then the reasoning on him spitting the dummy adn walking away are sound.  Sign him now.

I agree with the NRL withholding his registration. My sympathies go with the Canberra club on this occasion and fat-headed stars shouldn't be able to walk out to another contract after dragging a club into the mud. No doubt he is a huge talent and my thoughts goes out to youngsters thrust into the limelight but how is it too hard to earn 400k in a nowhere club and keep off the piss?
