Give me some rope here. Could be a completely stupid post or might have legs.

I'm going to start a poll.

The scales of Ruben poll.

I really like Garrick. He's been a very good and loyal player for this club. But a game doesn't go past now (especially now he's in the centres) where I love the guy for some really good play or I'm screaming at the screen for some really stupid **** he's just done. Sometimes it's both ways multiple times a match. Now he's in the centres I fell there is more opportunity to cock things up as he gets to touch the ball more often.

So in the eyes of fairness this poll will be an open ended vote as many times as you want either way or both if you want. Remember this is in your eyes so these numbers could get pretty high over the rest of the season.

I would be interested to see if the dumb moments outweigh the great.

Let's kick it off.

I will go first. There were a few stupid moments and at least 1 great for me today.

Let's keep a running total to see what comes out.

Garrick is a good winger, the problem for me there is a large difference between his best and his worst performances at centre, doesn’t read the opposing team’s attack and jams in on the inside runner constantly, doesn’t slide like the good centres.

I’ve been screaming to get Garrick out of the centres all year (and I’m sure people are sick of hearing it) but I think it’s the biggest issue we have at the moment.

A few brain farts this year, will sometimes do something stupid. Too many poor defensive reads in the centres that have led to tries. Check out Canberra’s second last try.

Positives: Speed and goal kicking.

Verdict: Get back on the wing NOW!!!

Just needs to play smarter. I can overlook the defensive blunders as a work in progress sometimes but things like the penalty for obstructing a raiders chaser yesterday are just stupid. You just can't do that anyone. Very luckybwith the drop ball early on as well.
I'd have to drop him at this stage to keep talau and hoppa. So much upside there.

Terrible defender, far too many mistakes and not a strong ball carrier.
Just does not have it in him.
Would be great to have a Staggs or Best type centre and would also help Saab.

Honestly I think the guy has shown enough at centre that he deserves that position. Koula or Talau are the other options, and seriously? Neither of them are exactly a million miles ahead of Garrick in the centres. Talau has been good but it's not night and day versus Garrick. Both have been pretty serviceable there, but Garrick has the ability to pull things out of nowhere on occasion.

I think with Schuster, Tuilagi, Keppie, etc gone, Garrick is just the most convenient whipping boy for many on this site. It'll take time with him and I think the 3+ tries we have conceded in the past few games straight through the middle 50 metres out, because of arm-grabbing, is a much bigger concern that is much easier to fix.

He gave away some stupid penalties yesterday which occur if he's at centre or on the wing. He's one of our statistical best in the team and is always a running threat. When he makes a tackle he sticks. He's getting better at the reads. I hardly think that's grounds to drop our 4th highest point-scorer.

He makes more mistakes at centre than he ever did as a winger where he was a great finisher.
What is his motivation for preferring centre over winger: salary, seeing more ball, less pressure defusing bombs? I'd like to know.
I used to play outside centre in rugby, and occasionally RL, but that was almost five decades ago. The position has changed. Now the two centres are like strangers who would only interact on Facebook!

Reckon its salary and the stigma of it being a lower-paid position.

Was a bit skeptical with the suggestion of Reuben moving to the centres on a more permanent basis this season but would attribute Manly "s further improved backline attack quite a bit to his move there
Not to the extent of course of Brooks" s input but still figuring well
Think the test again is performing just as capably against the more recognized centres as the lesser rated ones and Garrick definitely has runs on the board on that metric
Seems to be enjoying his time there as well , super competitive , of course still honing his game a bit but a big plus overall .
Only other alternative is a swap with Talau [ presuming Koula slots back to the other centre role ] and from an oppositions perspective , very likely would expect more of a challenge from Reuben there
