The Positive Patch

Koula is the real deal. Was nice to see Olam not tear us a new one like he usually does and I think Koula can take the credit for that, does a great job in defence especially when his inside man is always making the wrong read. Would love to see him get some early ball in attack too, but understand that would take away from DCE’s deadly 360s and side-to-side runs which clearly help the team more.

Croker has been much improved lately too - credit where it is due
Croker is much improved but missed a critical tackle on their front rower that lead to a long line break and subsequent try. However, when you make 50 a game you are bound to miss a couple. He is a bloody tough little fella takes them head on no arm grabs from him.

My positives for this week - I think Des had a haircut and patches of good goal line defence, after gifting the opposition yet again, prime field position.....and not having the ball stolen in a 1 on 1 tackle by Josh King to score another Storm try.

Yeah he is hitting like a brick. Its often hard to tell if its frog or jake until he pulls his head out of the tackle

They are the new bruise brothers

One positive is that we aren't that far away, we absolutely shot ourselves in the foot in the 1st half last night with a succession of 'little things' that come under the heading 'Discipline'.

How hard is that to turn around? Not easy, but it can be done. Losing concentration is a mental issue, and confidence and positivity can erode further as losses mount. So discipline and results could actually get worse!!

But it is a positive that it is within the team's power to change the mindset. Far better position than if we lacked in experience and desire and footy talent. (I realise some here think we do lack in those areas, I disagree!)

The positive patch perspective

It is good to keep positive but we also have to be realists

We have plenty of positives
A great coach, a mixture of elite and talented players in our squad
We also have the potential of being finals contenders

The reality is ...
We need to start winning because if we don't then this positive patch will go dry and our season will die

It all comes down to defence. The great Manly sides didn't let in 4 or 5 tries minimum each week. That's where our concentration should be over the coming weeks. Really celebrate the 1 and 2 try results. We know we can score with good possession. But when that's missing we need to be more resilient in defence and that's when we can compete against the better sides.....you're right though, we're not a million miles away.

100% did I read that we are second last in points conceded? That’s unacceptable. Sone of what I’ve seen down our right side has been abhorrent.

Positive from Thurs was like ser8 notes in that we bloody well beat ourselves! I thought for good periods we were on top through the middle. Bring the same intensity to the warriors game and cut out the mistakes and we’ll account for them no problem.

Josh A is fast becoming a great forward leader for us. And adds that toughness in the middle.

We have 7 games at brookie in the run home. Many of them winnable. We also play some poor teams below us away.

Croker improving his running game
Just need the rest of the team to realise he has a running game now and they need to back him up

@maxta originally intended this to be weekly and we could do with a bit of positivity so I thought why not rejuvenate it after last night's loss.

Well done to some players who stepped up and put in 100% till nothing left.
Good on other players who tried hard playing injured/out of position.
Under adverse conditions, the score could've but wasn't a whole lot worse.
We're only just outside the 8 on F/A and there's 6 weeks to go.
The draw favours us in the run home, whilst not so the Rorters and Rabbits.
With Covid, the weather, one-sided refs and officials, etc all against us, surely we're due for some better luck soon.
And last but not least...We should have Jake, the heart of our team, back next week (plus hopefully others) 🙂

Can't wait to see Jake, Croker and Davey rip in after a well deserved freshen up. If Roosters have wishbones I look forward to seeing some snapped at Brookie. Metaphorically speaking of course, I'd never wish injury on anyone.

Really thought Harper played well and another positive - Kapow at 1 point started charging direct like old days and winning quick play
Also good Manly fought back into a position to challenge a Win after such limited possession

Funny old season. Loss night was disappointing but so was losing 3 players out to covid, two players out of the match concussed early and our 2 best forwards injured during match. A missed opportunity for 2 points but some back luck at the wrong time of the season. You look at the other two matches were we really should of collected the two points was against NQ and Parramatta.

I had a look at the current ladder and we add those 6 points would of put us in equal second!!

Not to be obviously, but I look at this season and when Tom was injured thought it would be tough going but we are still in with a great chance to make the 8 and anything can happen from there.

Im just hoping injuries to Josh A and Quac not too serious.

Let’s hope this is the last season between now and his retirement, that Porcelain Man spends a good chunk of it on the sidelines.

Inconsiderate bastard.😉

Covid is not a freshen up….sure the body will not be getting bashed but the cardio is not great
