The not-so Magnificent 7

You've completely lost the plot old man. Reds under the bed eh? what's next, the yellow peril? Time to toddle back to your nursing home and watch a few more Trump speeches. And better not forget your blood pressure meds, I worry you might blow a gasket on one of your furious rants.

Eternal vigilance is the price of liberty; power is ever stealing from the many to the few.

The manna of popular liberty must be gathered each day or it is rotten. The living sap of today outgrows the dead rind of yesterday. The hand entrusted with power becomes, either from human depravity or esprit de corps, the necessary enemy of the people.

Only by continued oversight can the democrat in office be prevented from hardening into a despot; only by unintermitted agitation can a people be sufficiently awake to principle not to let liberty be smothered in material prosperity.”

(PSS ... I wish I had written this ... but I didn't .. just borrowed it ...)

How would the atheists , the moslems , the hindus and the jews feel ?

They would all feel divided just like the Ma

Did somebody mention the Inquisition? Hey, Torquemada, what d'ya say?

and ......... Ahhh, it's good to be the king!

Man, I've been dying to write that since Lizzie passed on.

Sorry was busy building another civilisation in a universe far from here.

I'm going to give them rugby league but there will be changed to players coaches contacts.

Let Dessie know I've heard his prayers but it's best we just rip off the band-aid now

How can I be of assistance?

Nope, that's perfect, thank you lord.

What would you do if you were the new Coach and / or the new CEO?
1. Do nothing/ Ignore?
2. If the case, what about our 2023 poisition (that's not a spelling mistake)?
3. Sack all 7?
4. Find out who instigated the whole sorry saga.... and sack him?
One big decision made today re Des. Lots of mixed opinions on here but my congratulations to the Board for making this tough decision. Never easy and was always going to be messy with Des and yes perhaps could have been handled more privately and more diplomatically. Upwards and onwards now with Seibold.

I think there needs to be another big decision made and that's regarding the Pride jersey and the 7 players involved. I don't think we can ignore this as it will come up again in 2023. Despite some very entertaining commentary above, I am still at a loss as to what I would do if I was (now) Seibold and Mestrov. For me this issue has everything to do with an individuals contractual obligation and commitment to play football for a commercially geared football club. If I had a player who I felt could not provide this commitment (for whatever valid reason) then I would be inclined to part company with that player. As painful and as difficult that might be.

This....

The title of this thread is not quite correct as there were ten, not seven players who stood down for the Roosters game.

Some posters would like to see all of these players banished from the club. To me, this a myopic perspective, it doesn't make sense and it won't happen (as several of the players are on long contracts). It seems silly for supporters to hold grudges against players who they cheered & praised earlier in the season. Hopefully, they will provide plenty of opportunities for us all to cheer in 2023!

Many of these players have come through our junior ranks and apart from being involved in the divisive jersey incident, their behaviour on and off the field has been exemplary.

In my opinion, if we are to have any chance of winning a premiership in the near future, we need at least five of these ten players in our team.

Essential Five
Saab - fastest player in the NRL, able to score tries that others can't
Koula - our best centre, speed to burn & incredible courage
Schuster - unique ball playing skills, potential to be a NRL superstar
Olakau'atu - our best back rower & one of the most dynamic forwards in the NRL
Aloiai - our best prop & our forward leader

Indeterminate Three
Sipley - honest player, good offloading skills
Tuipulotu - gutsy full hearted winger
Vaega - energetic winger with great potential

Untested Two
Tuitavake
Fifita

Yep, if we try to move these players on we may as well get a place ready in the trophy cabinet for our first spoon.

Why not just move on the marketing dickheads who dragged us into a complex, politically divisive social issue by fiat without discussing it with the players first?

Instead ... how about we just concentrate on what they signed those contracts to do .. and that is to play football ... NOT to wear gay pride jersey's ...

It's all about race with you @BOZO...

The best thing about Matai was he played hard... at the time it was the hard part that I admired but these days 'the 7' have made me realise the importance of having guys that are simply prepared to PLAY...

Don't put random political messages on their jerseys that needlessly scandalise their consciences and they'll play just fine.

At the end of the day the squad that Des picked and coached did not produce fair dinkum results
The fact is We under achieved

Des had no answers . We saw no Innovating changes to our predictable boring and inconsistent team selections and team plays

Even with Tom in the first 7 round we never consolidated to be a threat to the top 8
Seriously it is all down to the coach.

Penriths back to back premierships are due to Ivans brilliant innovations, his game plans are a work of art, his risk taking team selections are divine inspiration.

How the team he coached changed from cellar dwellers to winners overnight was truly awe inspiring.

What if the "Essential 5" confirmed to Seibold and Mestrov that they will NOT be wearing the Pride jersey next year...or any year?? What would you do here?

Thats the real dilemma / issue not only facing our club but I believe all of the NRL clubs. We just happen to be the first cab off the rank here.
