The Manly CENTRE dilemma is coming...

Alternate reality time.
Centre is a different position now compared to the past, even the recent past. Defensive nous and hard carries are two of their main jobs now.
Yes a speed machine with a swerve can be a weapon. James Roberts?
However it seems the number of centres in the top 10 this year for tries, try assists, line breaks and line break assists is zero - in each category.
May be coincidence, or maybe consistent with the changed role - and value - of the modern centre.

The modern game has become faster

and pace has more dominance than ever before

Players that do not have the pace are not in the race

You can not tackle a player you cannot catch

Speed Kills and the faster you go the bigger the mediocre mess you leave behind

We need to become a more competent team
We need more from our left edge
We need to strengthen our left edge
Other wise it will be exit stage left come finals time

Suli was initially put on the bench as cover for the forwards (and can obviously slot into the backline if need be) after the injuries to Aloiai and Taupau’s concussion...he wasn’t used because we didn’t need cover against the Warriors after everyone got through unscathed.
The following week we were up by 40 odd which gave us the luxury of bringing Tom off; that’s the only reason he got game time last week.

the point is, Des is picking Suli as cover at the moment. He is not picking him as “a centre on the bench” just as cover because of our circumstances. Suli may get a run if injuries permit but he is not going to walk into Parker or Harper’s position. I actually think there is a chance that Walker will be a bench utility in place of Cust if Harper and Parker are fit and in the side.
Suli has only ever played centre, so Des is 100% picking a centre on the bench, where he is played from the bench is a different story.
Obviously was used as a backrow option against Brisbane, as he would have been if he got on against the Warriors.
I think you will find Suli still views himself as a centre, as does Walker.....which is the good problem to have, with 4 players fighting for 2 spots.

Walker's only option in my eyes is to replace Parker but Des is a loyal Coach so it will be hard decision. Yes, Parker in attack is a weak link but how many more try's would we have scored if Walker was there? 2? 5? 10? There are lots of unknowns here.

Good luck Des, I'm sure he will pick the right one for our Team.

I'm afraid I can see another of Des's favouritism moves coming up. Firstly having Cust fill in as 5/8 to protect Foran's spot from being usurped by Schuster, and then replacing him with Walker at 5/8 to protect Parker until Foran gets back. I have a feeling that's his agenda.

'Favouritism' means unfair preference. Can you explain why you think his selection is unfair?
