I don't think Funa is Necessarily the answer. He is not ready for FG and actually played 20s again last year when others stepped up to NSW Cup. He is not that quick and will find defending in the centres a real battle.

I reckon Des will play Garrick before he gives Funa a run. I also think Parker would get the knod in front of Tevita as well.

King Albert our local boy is known to be the most talented Hoppa product . Very exciting times indeed !
As long as we can afford to be patient. Albert is a 17 year old who has never played grade football. Like us, 2 years away from the top.

I really like the personnel chosen but why TT at FB over Will?
50/50 on Funa over Anderson. Size v speed?
Tom or Will @ fullback. Either will do.
Someone said Anderson may be in a development contract, so unsure if he can play? I'd actually play him over Funa tbh.

Not in any training pics at all. Might check Titans training pics. Those pricks. Pilfering from every club.
Not Brian, but I recognise this bloke from somewhere, and I don't know why the photo has to be so big

Interesting. I didn't mind Kelly and I think he still has some improvement in him, so a little disappointed he is leaving. But I'm wondering who the hell we are replacing him with ?? I don't see anyone in current squad that is an upgrade on him.

And please, don't anyone say move Turbo to the centres.

Jorge to centres...I've been thinking it for years. He's too slow for the wing these days, but still has a good pass on him (short pass anyways)...it takes his suspect high-ball skills out of the equation...well-known to hit nearly as hard as Skivvi did...and 105kg of Taufua running off a Joel Thompson pass or cut-out from DCE would strike fear into the heart of most centres in the game!

Jorge was a centre before he came into first grade. He was only put on the wing because we already had Killer and Skivvy and had lost Robbo (Michael Oldfield got first crack at it, but by round 4 of 2012, Jorge was in). And by the time Lyon and Matai had retired, Jorge had pretty much played all of his first grade on the wing.

Personally, I agree with you. I think he could have been almost a perfect centre replacement for Steve Matai. He's not super fast, but isn't really slow either, and he does have a good short passing game. And taking him off the wing would also (mostly) take him out of the equation with high kicks.

I don't think Jorge would be cut out for a move to the back row, but centre might be a definite option.

If Parker is anything other than last option depth for a backline position, then we are in real trouble. Obviously someone has to come in to replace Kelly, but if Donny works his magic, going on what is already here, based on potential and talent, this appears reasonable...
Turbo
Garrick
Suli
Walker
Jorge

Hopoate
Funa
Elliot

Defensively I would say Hopoate is a bit better than Tom at fullback, mostly due to experience. But as attacking players from fullback go, Turbo craps all over Will when he's actually allowed to be just a fullback and isn't forced to or trying to be a play maker.

Fullback is a position that requires first and foremost defensive prowess comprising of good anticipation, excellent positional play and sublime tackling technique. A good defensive fullback will make in excess of 95% of his last ditch tackles which are try savers. In attack ta fullback requires good timing, anticipation and excellent hole running. In the modern game some fullbacks also want to be ball players wanting to throw long cut out passes and create opportunities for those out wide. IMO Turbo is a rare talent and is one of the most dangerous footballers in the world with ball in hand however he does not possess the defensive attributes required by a specialist fullback. I believe he is a natural centre and his performances in origin and in test football confirm that for me. I expect Des to change Turbo's game but he will remain fullback until we have a fullback in our squad and at present we don't have one. Will Hoppa is a solid fullback and would be a excellent fit into our side but I doubt we can afford him. I hope Des can do some magic.
