The Life Of Brian (Kelly)

This is why I always choose to support young players having a go, rather than bag the **** out of them.

Kelly will have more poor games, will miss tackles, but will also improve.

What Kelly has that the baggers seem to consider unimportant is that even during his worst game he never dropped his bundle, he kept looking for work and taking hit-ups trying to atone ... the first sign of a natural footballer. He has good footwork, good off-load, good timing and very good decision making in attack.

Will Kelly be a superstar .. will be difficult with his apparent lack of genuine top speed.
Will he be a good FG'er ... yes, and a very potent attacking weapon in the opposing teams red zone.

Gee the knockers are a harsh bunch. This is a kid who is a very long way from home experiencing his first year of first grade playing against grown men. A similar age to Tommy T, but with no brother in the side and no family home to return to for love and a home cooked meal.

It was clear for anyone with an ounce of empathy that the kid had lost confidence. Trent didn't use the term 'dropped' but 'rested to work on some things'.

Whatever work was done has returned his confidence and he showed last night what a great footballer he can be.

Well done young Brian Kelly and well done to the Trent and his Manly staff for figuring what was needed and getting it done.

Kelly's performance last night was on the back of the forwards getting in and up in defence and he went with it
If you look at his bad games is when the team is getting rolled through the middle and the backline start back peddling
Forwards win matches and Manly's pack won on that front last night and the backs were able to shine
Kelly has plenty to learn but is doing a great job of it in his first year in first grade

Kelly was my man of the match. Just did everything right. Easily his best game to date.

Between walker parker and kelly we have 3 young centres who could be very good together for a long time.

Obviously 3 doesn't go into 2 so expect we will lose 1 in the next couple of years

Parker could easily become a backrower.

The knockers, doubters, critics etc aren't a harsh bunch, it's first grade rugby league and the realities and expectations of performing to a certain level that come with it. BK has shown glimpses of his capabilities early on this season but through no lack of trying, poor form, defensive frailties and lack of confidence has led to all this debate. The knockers didn't drop him, it was his coach. "Dropped" or "rested" or however else you want to sugar coat it, BK was never going to see another first grade game this year but for the unfortunate season ending injury to Parker. Well done to BK for taking the opportunity and proving to himself, his team, his coach and the fans that he is capable of excelling in first grade. Hoping he can build on it with more consistent performances.

Again you people like to avoid the truth, nobody was criticised for their opinion that he was struggling ... that was obvious ... what the baggers were criticised for was the relentless shiit that they heaped on a good young man.

If you are unable to make that distinction then the argument left you behind weeks ago.

Twist it as it suits...............

It wasn't relentless sh*t...............people expressed their opinion that he wasn't cutting it and probably never will.

It just happened that he was then providing evidence of such on a fairly regular basis, and those posters continued to point that out!

We are dealing with some faint hearted Sacred hearts here feathered friend
The fact is the age to enroll in the army and be old enough to dodge bullets is 16 years and six months but to the faint hearted sacred hearts on here a 21 footballer is not old enough to cop criticism from the passionate supporters who have been frustrated by his consistent inept performances that have contributed to the teams loses .

I beg to differ. I think "you people" are avoiding the truth and looking at things through Rose coloured glasses. I for one have never argued that he isn't young, a good man, or was struggling with form. I was a big fan of him early on in the season and still am. Some of his performances were absolutely sh-it (you call it struggling) and he deserved criticism where it's due.. He was dropped and "my people" were calling for it. Trent obviously agreed with "my people". BK also deserves accolades where they are due as well. But you carry on as if he has been nailed on the cross. No home cooked meals from mum, no brother in first grade to hold his hand and no love! What is this? He's not an orphaned refugee fleeing from Somalia! He's a 20yo man living the dream following his passion in the Northern beaches playing for the greatest rugby league club in this competition along his mates, staff who support him and you want to turn that into a sob story! Sorry mate I just see things a bit differently to you.
