I don't get all the hate towards them. I've never settled a new contract a year out from current expiration. Te longest I've had on that was 8 weeks as I was relocating over here

That's what I was thinking (about the contract....not you in particular!) I must be wired differently as none of the speculation bothers me, as it didn't the last time when this mega forum was created. I also realise that trying to get people to stop worrying about rumours and innuendo is a waste of time.

I've been out snowboarding over the last 10 days and just drove 12 hours to get back home. I don't really care about the latest rumour 'from a reliable mate on good authority' blah blah which besides being b/s doesn't help me engage my edges when trying to carve my bataleon jam snowboard!

Foz and dce don't care about my boarding abilities but I'm sure they'd hope I'd follow due process whilst boarding, as I'm sure they'll follow due process with their contract negotiations.

So worry on fellow forumites or don't worry on, I have no control over what you do....but I'm going to live my life to the fullest .......by going to have breakfast at 11.40am!!!!

TLDR!

So which Club were you playing for when these negotiations occurred?
The cold hard reality is that contract negotiations for star Sports people can not be compared in any way to ordinary employment contracts and negotiations.

I hate the process that allows this to fester for decisions that will affect the 2016 season before a ball in anger is kicked for 2015. My concern is the uncertainty that this is causing this while they are deciding what to do.

I've already given up on 2016, it's a write off.

As for this 2015 season, well … how can I possibly support this team knowing probably not one of them will be here in 2022?
😱:giggle::makeup:😱

Left field theory. DCE & Foz are staying. They are dragging this out as the marketing dept has told them it's good for exposure and therefore good for our sponsors.. 🙂

Rugby League Week has mentioned that the club will consider an offer to Aiden Sezer should either of our halves leave. That adds to plenty of earlier speculation about this, so if we unfortunately do lose one of them, he could be a very solid replacement.
I agree. Sezer is good and also a reliable goal kicker.

What would he cost? 300-350k? Hunt played for Australia and re-signed with Brisbane for 400 a year, so he'd have to get less. And if it's in that area then jeez, you'd have to have a good hard look at even if Foran wants to resign because that allows you to tweak a few other spots rather than going all in on two guys...

I don't know why the NRL doesn't abandon the 2015 premiership and move straight to the 2016 competition. After all, it seems nobody cares about the upcoming season. Everybody is fixated on what will happen in 2016 and beyond.
Replace Fantasy League with Speculation League when the winner most closely selects the run-on teams for 2016.

It's unfair for everyone involved if this isn't sorted out before Round 1. We can't have another saga bring disruption to our 2015 season.

Thats what the bongos pay him but he probably is getting the Lockyer contract where the thouroughbreds secure and guarantee him a big chunk more.

I would love to know home many 3rd party deals started and stopped when a player joined/left the bongos, I am betting almost all.

So says his manager.....

It's a fair guess that 100% of the Donkeys " stars " are all topped up by the Thoroughbreds , Hunt on $400k on the books is probably on double that .

Aidan Sezer - yes please. I'd have him over Kieran Foran any day.

1. The kid has bundles of potential (just like Foran)
2. The kid is a year younger than Foran
3. The kid would come at 1/2 the cost of Foran
4. Point three allows us to strengthen other areas

Heck, I'd be offering Sezer 450k per NOW, see if he nibbles. If he signs, then recall Foran's offer.

5. Use that 550k to acquire someone like Hoppa to replace Matai if he wants to leave.
6. Groom Gutherson?Trbojevic for Brett Stewart's position when he retires.

Backline:-

01. Brett Stewart / Tom Trbojevic
02. Jorge Taufua / David Williams
03. Steve Matai / Will Hopoate
04. Jamie Lyon / Clinton Gutherson
05. Peta Hiku / Chase Blair
06. Aidan Sezer / Jack Littlejohn
07. Daly Cherry-Evans

Options, options, options......this is what Ken Arthurson was saying guys - invest in other options - shoot some arrows over other peoples decks.

I find this pretty funny! the NRL is about the only sport in the world with this **** problem. What you'll find is that most contracts aren't guaranteed for injury (as in total contract amount). Notice how its always the guys with the biggest contracts worried about signing for a new team a year in advance yet our fans defend this stupid practice. Coincidentally the stars are the ones who can most afford an injury break. No one is sticking up for the bloke making 80k a year who finishes a league season and has to find a new team. Those in the public are defending the rights of the $1mil men like Thurston who does the poor old me routine.

The reason they want to sign a year in advance is because they do it while their form is good and lock in a good rate then if their form suffers or their skills decline bad luck to the new team.

The NBA, NFL, NHL, MLB, every football (soccer) code in the world all have free agency or transfer periods so you don't spend all year talking about this rubbish. Simple solution 4 week free agency window. Pro rata contracts to reflect a league year of 11 months. Anti tampering penalties that if a manager, player or club or any league affiliated person talks about the potential signing with another team they suffer financial and contractual penalties. You either say "I will test free agency" or "I'm negotiating to re-sign but we will see what happens". End of story! The NFL has no problem fining blokes $50k who might only be making $500k . So hit them where it hurts and stop this rubbish.

Mind you never let common sense get in the way of a good argument.

P.S. If I start doing a crap job my employer can sack me. If a player starts playing crap they get their contracted amount. They're making plenty now I don't buy this I only have a limited time. That is true but you shouldn't be turning the game into a circus and ostracising the fans who put you in this position. Broken system.

Wouldn't mind a cap hit, rather than an annual salary being used to determine cap overage / under as well. Would put back-enders like Dessie out of his comfort zone !

Example
200k year 1
400k year 2
600k year 3
Annual cap hit 400k EACH year

Would stop some of the rorting too.

Wayne bennett does the same thing look at what happened to the Dragons once he left. Overpaying everyone. There's a reason why in the states they all employ a general manager as a coach. The GM provides a team with consultation and the coach puts them in a position to win. And if they have a good relationship or are a successful organisation they never go all in. It's always about planning for the future.

I used to like Des but even while he was with us I never liked that he had unilateral control. Tooves had to deal with a lot of crap over those contract situations.

Same deal with Bennett. Can't stand the bloke he only wins with brown paper bags in Brisbane or crippling a team for years after he leaves at the dragons. His new favourite thing seems to be stockpiling average fullbacks.

LMAO. I gave up on the 2015 season back in 2013. My manager wanted me to wait till 2014 but I insisted on it. Haha trumped you DCE & Foz.
