I agree it started last August......
When certain board members decided not to re-sign a club legend who was very popular amongst his team mates and who's little brother just happens to be the best player in the team. It wouldn't have taken too much intelligence to realise that Glenn should have been made an offer.
Lucky for us those certain board members are gone

Not just that Bones, but the board were warned numerous times, prior to making their final decision --- by Foran and Matai and perhaps others --- that if Gifty wasn't re-signed, there would be serious implications within the team. It seems the Club did not listen then and have been paying for it ever since.
What Organization folds to the ultimatum of a few employees? 😎

Gifty is past his best and having him sit in Manly rehab is idiocy.

Foran's obsession with Dalai enables him to hang his current employer, coach, members and supporters out to dry 😡

Dalai sold BoChocs and Foran on rebuilding Parra. The Boardroom will ensure, that the chopping and changing of personnel, will continue @:cool:

Everyone in the sportsworld, not just the NRL, now see Foran as a mental weakling @:rolleyes:

Lets hope he takes his angst out on the Rabbids tonight :handfist:

Hyndie confirmed it on the Matty Johns Show last night. Plus Skysports had it.
Also the Dalai clause has replaced the 1m damages clause.
Thanks for filling me in.

I reckon it's probably all bull**** though...there has been so much speculation, and these journos just pick up something they read on a forum and run with it.

Every player contract amount is pure speculation, get sick of hearing player x singed with club x for x amount of dollars, as if the media are privy to reading any dollar and structure amounts for player contracts

Out of curiosity, I’ve been trying to find online a standard copy of the NRL player contract. I know it exists and has to have as a minimum, certain clauses the NRL prescribes.

I’ve been able to see this from a few sources including, Piggy Riddell’s Federal Court case about the tax deductibility of managers’ fees ([2008] FCAFC 150). On the NRL website there’s some references to this (in the agent accreditation material):
  • ‘NRL Playing Contract’ - means a contract between an NRL Club on the one hand and a Player on the other hand in accordance with the terms of Form 1 to the NRL Playing Contract and Remuneration Rules or in such other terms as the Chief Executive Officer may approve;
  • ‘NRL Playing Contract and Remuneration Rules’ – means Schedule Six to the NRL Rules;

Through Google searches I cant find the actual NRL version. But this comes up: (http://www.sportingpulse.com/get_file.cgi?id=99639). Seems to be a Country Rugby League version. If the NRL one looked like this, it would be interesting. It would require as a minimum that these clauses must be included (even if others can be added). It would mean: its not binding until its registered (cl 23) and cl 19: all terms to be kept confidential (Kiwi’s point above).

If anyone has seen the NRL version online anywhere, I’d be keen to know. It would answer a few questions.

For what its worth I don't think he was not made an offer.
Others will remember this more clearly but I think the media reports at the time were that for quite some time Manly were telling Gift they would talk to him about a contract but in the end did not, and after he signed with Souths the non-offer was explained either that we could not afford a contract that the NRL would accept as genuine, or that we would not insult him by offering a low deal we could afford. Or something like that...

Re: Foz, the longer this goes, the more you think the Eels are out. If he wanted to go there, it would simply have been a matter of getting a contract they agree on and signing. He doesn't need to break it to his team mates as they already thought he was going anyway. Boom. Deal done.

So whether its us or someone else, you get the feeling he's not gonna be in blue and gold next year. Unless maybe its that ****ing Wolverine piece of **** jersey...

My guess is that Foran wants all his monies as Cap money.
With TPAs for Hoppa etc falling over and Peats' car repossessed, even Foran is not as blinded by Dalai love - surely 😕

How can he look Manly powerbrokers/2v in the eye each day ? Money same, duration longer and he still rejects them :banghead:

Yep, the NRL refused to register a contract for the amount we could afford and whilst it was a lowball number, Gifty was prepared to accept it to stay a one club player.

The person I spoke to mentioned a figure of $250k, which coincidentally is what Lockyer was registered for in his final year and also what Minichelo was registered for in his final year. The view of the club was that the NRL has one rule for some and another rule for us. In the end the club didn't make that offer to Gifty because they had been told by the NRL that they wouldn't register anything less than $500k.

It's all water under the bridge now and it's very easy to see both sides of this story.

If that's the story , Do you now believe everything you read in newspapers?
Your kidding yourself if you think us fans know what's really going on behind the scenes.

That's what I remember reading, too. So I'd say the truth is somewhere in between. Either way, it was ugly and should never have happened to a Club legend.

How do you know this? Are you a seer?
