The key is Brett Stewart

So, Matai is out, god bless our stalwart, but what about the Prince of Brookvale? Are you telling me nobody is close enough to know how he is traveling?

Snake fit and healthy will be great in 2017

Tommy T will also be great at centre for one season.

Snake; Champion player

....but he wont be back. His body is no longer up to it, and he knows it. On top of that, he doesn't want to stand in the way of young Trbojevic.

As well as being a champion player, he's a champion bloke.

BUT

He still wants his money, and therein lies our problem.

Unlike Jamie who realised he was stuffed and stood down without the same demands.

I love Snake like the rest of you , his feats may never be repeated but he will either stay for the money or do some deal still getting the same money.

Think of each player as having a value expressed in a number of electoral college votes. Stewart is worth about 50 if he can play well. If he retires we can use that 50 elsewhere.

Just an idea out of left field.
IF....Snake by his own merits called it a day (only if the body has not improved 50% on 2016)....his money then is used to lure needed quality out wide (who the club is releasing players as we post to make happen)
Then....Snake becomes a Trainer....still part of the Club.....still on good money (close to the same if possible)....can genuinely help some of the youngsters including Turbo, who is an elite athlete with unlimited ability - but has a long way to go with his field position in attack & defence....
A fresh , healthy Stewart would be my ultimate outcome, sadly, regardless of denial, I think my favourite player of the past decade would be best remembered with the amazing memories on file - would hate a nightmare ending to a Champions career however, noone can knock him for wanting his much deserved payday....been the key with Lyon & Kennedy in regaining the Manly we all love and had plenty of other options when he signed on to stay loyal to Manly....something we should acknowledge...loyalty both ways.

If Brett is not physically fit to play, can the club pay him out without it being counted against our cap ?
Excellent question. Snake and the club will come to a negoitated arrangement (pay out). Will it count towards the cap? Ordinarily I would think yes, but given the precedent that the NRL had set this season with Parramatta in regards to Watmough and Foran.....well, it's an open can of worms (pun intended) now.
