The Jake Conundrum

Tom spends more time off the field than on he is part of our problem and Jake is way overpaid and being played out of his suited position— a bench prop….as for Trevor well he is average on his best day
Not sure if you have seen Jake in the media the past few days but he is Manly through and through. Said he doesn't want to play anywhere else and seems upset about Cherry's decision to depart. There will be other clubs interested in Jake and I would like him to resign. Has he slowed down? Yes. Is he overpaid? In terms of current output yes (however factor in when he signed the contract and his 100% commitment and loyalty to Manly and I am ok with it). Is his best position Prop? Probably. Is he still one of the best defenders in the game? Yes. Does he lead by example? Yes (and his SOO selection endorses this). Is he 100% committed to the Manly cause? Hell Yes.

While I agree Turbo should take a pay cut accounting for his injury concerns Cleary only played 13 games last season & managed to win a comp. We’ve also seen Pap have a lot of problems with Melbourne always staying competitive.

The difference is other teams play a simple style of footy without their star, something DCE doesn’t seem capable of. Always tried doing too much & ends up running around like a headless chicken, until Hoppa has arrived as a top class back up. I’m not blaming him for these losses without Turbo over the years but I think it will be interesting to see how we go with a half more focused on game management, kicking to corners & bashing the other team into errors. A half like Fogarty doesn’t mind to win ugly.

1 example I can think of from the top of my head was last year (or the year before) we were beating Melbourne at home but they finished fast scoring a couple late tries to make it close. All DCE had to do was hold the ball for the win but he decided to put a grubber kick in up by only 1 try with 0 seconds left on the clock… not smart

I wish he could put his love and passion for manly into post contact metres..look I love Jake but he is no where near worth 900k even at his best..at the end of the day our dynamic 3 have failed to bring a premiership back home

Agree he is not worth $900k now and I wouldn't expect his next contract to be that value either. Re failing to bring a premiership back home, apart from Panthers, Roosters, Storm (I forget who else won a premiership in last 10 years) there are a heap of players this could be said about.

I was at Brookie for that game. When DCE put that grubber kick in, the whole of the hill went silent, not for a possible try but for a possible last gasp effort that the Storm had. A lot of f words were directed at DCE after the fulltime hotter sounded, actually, the f words were more in relief tbh.

While we are pointing out shocking DCE moments (I liked doing this before the events of this week) don't forget the Cowboys game the week before that. 26-12 lead, Cows score 2 tries in quick succession to make it 26-24 with 5 minutes left. Cows drop the kickoff so you would think we keep the ball down their end and run out the clock.. DCE pushes it down the right side, first tackle off the scrum and drops it trying to force a pass. Holmes picks it up and the rest is history.

The bloke has never been an effective game manager bar a few Origin games over the years. I truly think what this team actually needs now is a steadying presence at halfback that focuses on kicking, and taking the ball into the line to free up space for Turbo, Haumole and the outside backs. Fogarty, Reynolds and even Foz all sound like good options for this, and then we'd also be freeing up coin to potentially improve our pack too.

Certainly won't miss the rushing up out of the line in defence either, might even find myself appreciating Garrick's defence after all!

Penns plan was to bring the championship back to manly through Dce Tom and Jake and this year is their last shot I really hope it happens but common sense kicks in

Also against Cowboys, they came flying home with late 3 or 4 tries as manly fell apart, to be within striking distance. DCE is in space with tackles up our sleeve with less than a minute to go, and he puts grubber through some 30-40m away from the tryline and gives the cowboys one more shot.

Dce doing dce and playing what'd in front of him

We are all under pressure to Perform in our jobs
and footy players are no different
This is how Paul Crawley from NRL Fox thinks Jake is Performing at Manly .

MANLYS ONE MILLION $ TIME BOMB EXPOSED
It’s a bit rich for anyone to start blaming Manly’s embarrassing loss to Melbourne on the Daly Cherry-Evans contract controversy.
Especially when we all saw the concerning defensive lapses from Jake Trbojevic in the 48-24 belting at Brookie.
Yes, the Sea Eagles looked slow and lethargic against the competition favourites.

But if we are fair dinkum no one looked slower or more lethargic than the veteran forward who got left for dead in defence for the first two tries.
Remember, Jake was the most outspoken team member following the recent DCE bombshell, declaring he could never leave his beloved club.

But is anyone now second-guessing Jake’s commitment, or inferring his performance was a sign of how upset he is at what his skipper has decided for his future?

Perhaps the bigger issue to come out of this match from Manly’s perspective moving forward relates more to the commentary last week that the 31-year-old Trbojevic is off contract at the end of next year.

And that Jake might have to cop a huge pay cut off his current $1 million-a-season deal if he wants to play on.

It will be interesting to see how the Sea Eagles negotiate this potential time bomb in the coming months with the DCE drama still fresh in everyone’s minds.

Time does look to be catching up with him. Pace of the game has been impacting him last few years. He's made for a different era. Just not this one.
Jake has been a Great player and at his peak would be Great in any era

There are Exceptions but Most footy players that turn over the Big 30 are not what there were when they were younger
Father time catches up and slows us down

Every BODY is indeed different

Honestly, news ltd "journalism" is trying to get clicks out of Manly... blaming Jake, blaming DCE, reading into a flogging and capitalizing. Crawly and Rothfield are morons. Stop giving them the satisfaction. We got flogged by a very good team. The sun still came up today.

The Storm are a very good team and Competitive teams put up a Competitive contest
Evey one expected Many to put up a Competitive Contest on our Sell out Home Ground
We exposed our selves with our underwhelming performance

Yes , The Sun did come out today
But the Birds are not singing feathered friend
They only Sing when we Win

Not seeing a problem.

Jake gets resigned with a huge haircut, to a value that is much more in line with his output in the current era.
And reduced minutes for Jake too.
He was effective in SOO just last year in short bursts, no reason he can't play a similar role at Manly for another couple of years provided we have more decent forwards to share game time.

The thing is SOO was years ago
Jake is a years older now and evidently slower
The other thing is the Bench is more advantageous with Impact players
Do we invest in say $400k in a player that is declining?
Or in a Player that is on the rise ?
Jakes contract ends at the end of next year
