The Daly Cherrygraph

In June 2018, former teammate Willie Mason claimed that when he was at Manly that nobody wanted to play alongside Cherry-Evans and that he was the reason there was such a divide at the club. Mason went on to say "I was there in 2015, I've never seen, never been involved in a team, that I could just see such a divide in a club, It was because of Cherry-Evans. All this **** that's been happening around him, like, something's wrong, "He then signed with the Gold Coast Titans for like 10 years", Mason said. "And then there was a big ****ing meeting, Cherry-Evans has got something to say. "I just signed a deal with the Titans boys, blah blah blah". "I'm like, who gives a ****, you don't hold a meeting about that. No one cared".[77]

Mason's comments came in the wake of former Manly player Anthony Watmough commenting on a podcast calling Cherry-Evans a "****wit" and that he was the reason other players needed to depart the club.[78]

Although granted its already pretty tarnished 🤷‍♂️
What I mean is, he wouldn’t have gone through the ugly split with Manly, to end up overseas. If he intended to go there all along, the narrative around his departure from Manly would have been very different, I.e. I’ll never play against my beloved Sea Eagles, it’s just time to finish up in the NRL and enjoy a year overseas with the family. He’d leave with every Manly fan’s blessing. Instead, he went the other way, which tells me he is off to the Roosters.

Like everyone else I fully expect him to sign with the Roosters, but I wouldn’t be that surprised if he went to SL. If they offer more money and Nick forms the view that the Roosters don’t need him (both of which are quite possible in my view) then it could happen.
