Cherry-Evans' pouting insistence on an upgrade after the 2011 grand final and the subsequent fallout that ensued always tainted my opinion of him. Self-serving people have never enamoured me; I have always viewed Cherry-Evans through that lens, so his departure brings nothing but satisfaction for me, despite his footballing ability.
Give me a bloke who looks you in the eye and tells you what's on his mind any day of the week, and as his tenure at Manly draws to an end, once again, he has proven not to be that man.

Fairly sure that @AndWeDon'tCare has some insider knowledge on how these events transpired from within the club. I believe he inferred that when the news first broke, and said he understood the reasons for DCE leaving, at least until he went on 100% Footy. If there was any disrespect from inside the club, DCE certainly matched it when he went on that show.

I think (?) both DCE and Mestrov have said they would be willing to have him back in a coaching role post-retirement, so I don't imagine it's anything significant, where relationships are untenable with management, like Des. Could even be a matter on the level of Molo at the Dragons, where someone said he's done nothing since 2011, and he took offence, or something.

I sure hope he doesn’t come back into a coaching role. What’s he going to teach, how not to game manage? How to run in circles? How to go for the hero play when absolutely not called for? How to disrupt your own defensive line by sprinting up by yourself and getting stranded? Maybe as a specialist kicking coach (field goals and forty twenties) but that’s it.

What has he said since the announcement? I have missed it.

You might have missed the press conference after the following game where Manly won. Manly had copped heat all week, but DCE didnt defuse the situation and reiterate as per his exclusive that there were no issues with he and the club, and instead ran a narrative about a smear campaign, perhaps alluding to the Mestrov's version of events and Weidler strongly challenging that information, perhaps not?

I feel Weidler went overboard trying to make Manly look bad for the following 2 weeks, and his only sources were DCE and his management as Weidler had all this information about ''emails'' between the 2 parties.

I still havent heard the smear campaign and even know what that was all about. You had journos take sides in regards to his ''exclusive'', maybe those that didnt get on board with DCE's narrative are considered to be smearing, but what was that all about, does anyone know?

And to this day, despite ongoing talk of distrust between he and the club, DCE hasnt reiterated he and the club have no issues. Mestrov repeatedly, post DCE's exclusive, stated they have no issues with DCE. DCE has just let the rumour of issues between he and the club to fester and gain more weight by way of silence.

Something so simple that a captian could have done to quell the situation I believe, but has never been forthcoming.
